This will be a freelance contract, with a total fee of £1,500 including all workshops, travel, production meetings, and materials. We expect the role to cover a least 24 hours at £50 hourly rate, though this will vary depending on the scale of the proposal and materials used.
You will be working with a group of around 10 young adults aged between 13 -19-year-olds to develop and reflect the young people’s energy and ideas, and to creatively explore LGBTQ+ identity, fashion, style and subculture, and through a series of workshops make something spectacular for this year’s https://www.facebook.com/BatleyPride/ – Pride Event in Batley Park, 29th June. This will be shown as part of our stall at the event (rather than a performance on a stage).
The group are very imaginative, often creating their own stories and urban myths. They are already used to simple crafting activities (glueing/sticking/decorating etc), though do not often work towards a big project over several weeks. Some participants study Textiles at GCSE, and others have a keen interest in fashion, make-up and styling. In general, the group do not have much of experience working with stitching/sewing/crochet etc.
Ideas we have so far:
A unique piece of clothing that can be displayed, e.g. a cloak or jacket or suit.
Decor for the Brunswick Centre stall and gazebo- backdrop, tablecloth, fabric hangings or collage
An installation or sculptural form that can be displayed and added to by people attending the festival
You will have your own ideas!
You will be experienced in involving participants closely involved in direction and production of a desired outcome.
A warm, welcoming and friendly manner with ability to communicate well with different people and in a range of ways.
A deep understanding and experience of working with one or more groups that have been historically marginalised due to homophobia and transphobia.
Skills and vision to produce a strong piece of artwork within budget.
Understanding of child and vulnerable adult safeguarding and child protection.
Current DBS certificate or a willingness to undertake one.
Creative methods using environmentally friendly, recycled and ethical materials with minimal and recyclable waste.
