To provide a quality program of instruction designed to meet the affective, linguistic and cognitive needs of limited English proficient students.
- Provide instruction for developing comprehension, speaking, reading, and composition in English for limited English proficient students.
- Develop and implement plans for the curriculum program assigned and show written evidence of preparation as required.
- Prepare lessons that reflect accommodation for individual student differences.
- Present the subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, Board policies and administrative regulations.
- Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media, consistent with the special needs and capabilities of limited English proficient students.
- Cooperate with other members of the staff in planning and implementing instructional goals, objectives, and methods in accordance with District requirements.
- Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher assistant(s) and/or volunteer(s).
- Employ technologies in the teaching/learning process.
- Assist students in analyzing and improving methods and habits of study.
- Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
- Monitor the performance of students who have exited the ESL program to assess their academic success, as required by State law.
- Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned.
- Present for students a positive role model that supports the mission of the school district.
- Create a positive classroom climate for the development of a positive self-concept for limited English proficient students.
- Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
- Establish control in the classroom and administer discipline in accordance with Board policies and administrative regulations.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
- Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents.
- Keep parents informed of the status and progress of their children in the ESL program, as required by State law.
- Inform parents of the benefits of the ESL program, as required by State law.
- Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
- Take responsibility for making referrals to school authorities in areas of need.
- Use acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
- Assist content area teachers in modifying instruction, pacing, and materials to meet the needs of limited English proficient students.
- Participate in the District staff development program.
- Demonstrate interest and initiative in professional improvement.
- Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
- Keep informed of and comply with State, District, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
- Keep informed of and comply with State regulations concerning the required ESL program.
- Assume responsibility for testing the language proficiency of all students whose home language is not English, in accordance with State law.
- Serve as a member of the Language Proficiency Assessment Committee.
- Serve as a member of the Admission, Review, and Dismissal Committee for any limited English proficient student who qualifies for services in the special education program.
- Assume responsibility for compiling, maintaining, and filing all reports, records, and other documents required.
- Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
- Regular attendance.

ASSIGNMENTS TO VIRTUAL INSTRUCTION:
- Seamlessly integrate District-approved online learning platforms and required software into the planning, delivery, and support of virtual instruction.
- Plan, prepare, implement, and evaluate lessons and activities during the standard work hours of the campus at which the teacher is assigned, as well as prolonged or irregular hours.
- Be able to communicate with students, parents, and campus and District personnel during the standard work hours of the campus at which the teacher is assigned, as well as prolonged or irregular hours.
- Adhere to all professional responsibilities and deadlines including professional communication and responsiveness.
- Be flexible, responsive, and positive with students, parents, and staff.
- Effectively translate CISD Best Practices into the virtual instructional setting.
- Regularly attend and apply District-approved professional development in the most up-to-date practices associated with virtual instruction.
- Accurately and timely obtain and report required student data, including attendance, grades, etc.
- Dress professionally as you would if you were offering instruction to students in a traditional, in-person setting.
- Teach and interact with students from a quiet space, free from distraction, where appropriate confidentiality rules can be followed.
- Create a virtual classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
- Provide small group and tutoring opportunities for students who are experiencing difficulty in their learning.
- Support any extracurricular activities for which you are responsible according to District guidelines.
- Attend all required campus and District meetings.
Education/Certification:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Elementary or secondary certification with ESL or bilingual endorsement
- Valid ESL certification
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
- Specialized knowledge of theory and practice of English as a second language instruction
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervise assigned teacher aide(s).
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environment Factors:
Maintain emotional control under stress. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.
