Skeletal Muscle Biomechanics via Disclination-based Continuum Modelling

nearmejobs.eu

Skeletal muscles play a crucial role in human movement and function. However, current biomechanical models often struggle to capture the complex internal structure and behaviour of muscles. This PhD research proposes using disclination-based continuum mechanics to develop a novel approach for modelling skeletal muscle biomechanics.

This research has the potential to revolutionize skeletal muscle biomechanics. By incorporating disclinations, the model can offer a more realistic representation of muscle structure and function compared to traditional continuum models.

This could lead to:

  • Improved understanding of muscle mechanics, including force generation, fatigue, and injury mechanisms.
  • Development of more accurate simulations of human movement and posture.
  • Design of new therapeutic interventions for muscle disorders.

Methodology: We will develop a theoretical framework for disclination-based modelling of skeletal muscle, incorporating relevant material properties and muscle physiology. We will implement the model in a robust computational framework to simulate muscle behaviour under various loading conditions. We will validate the model through comparisons with experimental data on muscle force generation and deformation. We will finally apply the model to study specific muscle mechanics problems, such as force distribution during movement or the effect of muscle pathology.
