JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Senior Dental Lab Technician provides specialized technical support in the day-to-day operation of the Dunn Dental instructional laboratories to include the Dental Technique and Dental Hygiene Laboratories. This position performs a variety of duties that support the academic programs including preparing instructional materials and models, monitoring equipment, ensuring that lab spaces are ready and clean for each class session, and assisting students and faculty in techniques, procedures, and operation of the equipment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Participates in daily operation of the instructional dental laboratories.
2. Prepares various stone and plaster models as requested by the faculty including models with specific dental problems used in instructional exercises.
3. Assists students with laboratory projects and provides instruction in the proper use of equipment and techniques.
4. Maintains dental instrument cassettes. Performs the distribution, collection, inventory, maintenance and storage of dental instrument cassettes.
5. Maintains the laboratory space in optimal condition.
6. Assists in the preparation and cleaning of lab space for class and cleaning of lab space(s) and lab equipment.
7. Monitors and reports to the supervisor the condition of the lab including any malfunctioning lab equipment following evening/weekend use by students and lab monitors.
8. Orders and maintains consumable supplies, dental and lab materials, and repairs parts.
9. Monitors the expiration date(s) on supplies and materials. Ships and receives materials as needed.
10. Enforces safety regulations and precautions by monitoring the lab environment and student activities.
11. Trains after-hours student monitors and assists in preparing for Continuing Education, National Board and other testing programs that originate on-campus as well as from off-campus entities.
12. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of related work experience. Must have a diploma/certificate in Dental Laboratory Technology.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of dental laboratory operating procedures and safety requirements.
- Ability to understand curricular needs of a hands-on student training lab and provide needed services.
- Ability to provide excellent customer service and direct academic support to students and faculty.
- Ability to plan and respond to requests from programs and departments within the Dental College.
- Ability to produce demonstration models required for laboratory class training.
- Ability to assist students with their lab exercises, identify problems, and provide suggestions.
- Knowledge of dental nomenclature for instruments, equipment, and procedures
