UT Dentists, the dental faculty practice plan of UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry, is accepting applications for a part-time, benefits-eligible, Staff Dentist positions, in collaboration with various Community Dental Clinics (including Harris Health System and HOPE Clinic), to provide comprehensive general dental care to patients at multiple community-based dental clinics (where needed).

Position Summary:

The Staff Dentist is primarily responsible for providing comprehensive general dentistry in an educational, community-based setting. Treatment will be evidence-based and driven by quality and value to the patient.

Position Key Accountabilities:

  • Provide culturally competent, evidence-based, person-centered dental treatment; prescribe and carry out, or direct others in carrying out, health promotion and disease prevention, and refer patients for specialty consultation or treatment in concordance with approved clinical protocols.
  • Complete a comprehensive treatment record, including but not limited to health history, treatment notes, referrals, informed consent, and other needed documentation related to patient care, in concordance with clinical protocols and local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Represent the School of Dentistry and cultivate long-term rapport with community physicians and other dental providers to optimize referrals and encourage the integration of oral health as a needed aspect of overall health.
  • Participate in and/or deliver continuing education, professional development, mentoring, and in-service learning for practice dentists and staff; serve as a role model for life-long learning.
  • Comply with all applicable federal, state, local, and center rules, regulations, policies, and protocols governing the clinical provision of dental care including but not limited to workplace safety, confidentiality, staff.
  • Perform other tasks to achieve organizational and program goals and objectives, including periodic review of clinical productivity, as assigned by the Dental Director and/or Associate Dean for Patient Care.

Qualifications:

  • Education and Training:
  • Graduation from a CODA-accredited dental school
  • Completion of a general dentistry residency
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills

Preferred:

  • 2+ years of experience.
  • Forward-thinking attitude with a focus on prevention, quality, and value of care, and commitment to working in a public health setting.
  • Fluency in Spanish, Vietnamese, or other foreign language.

Licensure and Credentials:

  • Unrestricted license to practice dentistry in the State of Texas.
  • Current CPR (BLS) certification.
  • Valid DEA registration.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of culturally competent, evidence-based, person-centered dental care with a focus on disease prevention, quality, and value for the patient.
  • Appreciation of the impact of the social determinants of health, the capacity to function successfully as part of a large team.
  • Ability to use electronic health records efficiently and proficiently.
