Chengdu Institute of Biology (CIB), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) is a national independent institution. It focuses on fundamental and pioneering research as well as technological innovation in biodiversity conservation, ecological and environmental restoration, and sustainable utilization of rich biological resources provided by the Global Biodiversity.

Over the past 60 years, CIB has achieved a series of groundbreaking successes in scientific discoveries, technological innovation, talent training ,  and research commercialization, and has strongly supported local socioeconomic development. It has made remarkable contributions to biodiversity conservation and sustainable development at regional, national and global levels.

CIB has three research centers: Biodiversity Conservation Center, the Ecological and Environment Restoration Center, and the Biological Resources Utilization Center, with more than  thirty innovation research teams in total. It serves as the host institution for the “China-Croatia Belt and Road Joint Laboratory for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services”, the National Engineering Research Center for Natural Medicines, the Key Laboratory of Mountain Ecological Restoration and Biodiversity Conservation of Sichuan Province, and the Key Laboratory of Agricultural Microbial Preparations of Sichuan Province. CIBS also operates  four field stations and houses the second-largest amphibian and reptile specimen collection in Asia and an herbarium with over 460,000 specimens.

CIB invites applications from talented individuals of all nationalities and ethnicities for three categories of positions (1) Strategic Scientist, (2) Outstanding Young Investigator, and (3) Postdoctoral Research Fellow. 

 

Position Details

1. Strategic Scientist

Ideal Candidates shall enjoy high international academic standing in their research domains, with systematic and original and influential achievements in basic frontier interdisciplinary research and original innovation.  Candidates are expected to identify national strategic needs and lead large-scale scientific research programs.

Qualifications:

• Have made significant academic contributions in one or more of the research fields listed above.
• Demonstrate the capability to secure research funding independently fund and lead a research team.
• Maintain high scientific integrity and demonstrate enthusiasm for academic collaboration.

Support Package:

• In line with CIB’s strategic development layout, qualified candidates will be recommended for the position of Director or Deputy Director of the following three Key Laboratories ：

• “China-Croatia Belt and Road Joint Laboratory for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services
• National Engineering Technology Research Center For Natural Medicines
• Key Laboratory of Agricultural Microbial Preparations of Sichuan Province

2. Outstanding Young Investigator

Candidates are expected to master advanced academic theories and technical methodologies and have made notable research contributions in one or more of the listed disciplines.

Qualifications:

• Possess innovative research ideas with great academic potential and show the capacity to grow into academic leaders in the field.
• Hold a doctoral degree, with no less than three consecutive years of research experience at prestigious universities or research institutions or hold senior professional technical titles.
• Demonstrate the ability to obtain independent research funding and lead a research group.
• Uphold high scientific integrity and actively engage in collaborative research.

Support Package:

• Focus on the Natural Science Fund for Excellent Scientists Fund Program (Overseas) or Youth Talent Recruitment Initiative of CIB.
• Successful candidates will receive full support to establish an independent research program, including dedicated start-up funding, exclusive laboratory space, competitive salary and welfare benefits, and housing subsidies.
• Candidates may also join existing innovation teams at CIB, with tailored guidance provided in research direction planning and laboratory operation and management.

3. Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Postdoctoral researchers will join well-funded innovation teams at CIB, conduct research in botany, zoology, microbiology, cell biology, biochemistry and molecular biology, genetics, genetic engineering, ecology, medicinal chemistry, synthetic biology, environmental science, artificial intelligence  and related interdisciplinary areas.

Qualifications:

• Hold a PhD degree in a relevant research field. Show outstanding academic performance, strictly uphold scientific integrity, and possess strong ambition and self-motivation.
• Be capable of working both independently and collaboratively within a team and be encouraged to undertake independent research projects.

 

Salary description:

Salaries for Strategic Scientists, Outstanding Young Investigators will be competitive with the international market, depending on experience and achievement level. Salaries for postdoctoral fellows will be commensurate with salary levels in China.
