About the project

The University of Cincinnati has been developing a suite of ultrasonic sensors for structural health monitoring in extreme, typically high temperature (550°C+) environments. The research has been sponsored by the US Department of Energy and industry. Depending on the candidates experience and interest, the projects may involve some combination of -fundamental basic research, -engineering design,-computer simulation, – electronics. Applicants will certainty be considered without experience in computer simulation or electronics. The research will involve laboratory experiments and real industry installations.

It is preferable to start this project asap.

Candidate requirements

No specific background experience is expected, all training will be provided. You should have at least a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline such as Engineering or Physics. Applicants should have a GPA of at least 3.5 or first class degree. If English is not your first language then an IELTS score of at least 6.5 is expected.

About PhD’s in the USA

The PhD program is typically four years full time. The PhD program includes roughly one year of part time taught courses. UCNDE is part of the Aerospace Engineering & Engineering Mechanics department. While research projects do not necessary focus on aerospace applications, the researcher will typically be enrolled in either the Aerospace Engineering or Engineering Mechanics PhD program.
