Job Description

Studio Pottery is a ceramics studio that is utterly unique. Founded by Studio Director, Lucy Attwood and Artist Director Gregory Tingay, Studio Pottery London opened on the 11th September 2019 is the first space for pottery enthusiasts and beginners alike in central London. It combines the intimacy and meditative art of being at one with clay, with the elegance of a gallery space. The studio offers open access teaching as well as a workshop area for members. At the heart of Studio Pottery London is the desire to form a community around a shared ethos and love of pottery in all its forms.

The role will be primarily responsible for overseeing all technical and operational aspects of the pottery studio, including day-to-day studio operations, firings, and management of materials, equipment and tools for ceramics classes and studio members.

The Studio Technician works directly with the Studio Directors, liaises with the Studio Manager and in-house Pottery Tutors to ensure an organised, cohesive working environment.

3) MANAGEMENT OF ALL CLAY WORK MOVING THROUGH THE STUDIO

4) MANAGEMENT OF KILN WORK

5) MANAGEMENT OF GLAZE ROOM

6) MANAGEMENT OF CLAY

7) MANAGEMENT OF SINKS, RECLAIM AND WASTE CLAY

8) LIAISON WITH STUDIO TEAM

9) TEACHING

10) SUPERVISION AND SUPPORT

11) HEALTH AND SAFETY MANAGER

12) GENERAL DUTIES

Hours: Full-time

Flexibility: Flexibility is required of the post holder to perform work not specifically referred to the job description listed. Studio Pottery London is open evenings as well as weekends; across which this post will be expected to operate flexibly – as with all the staff team – to help provide appropriate cover to activities running from the building.

Job Requirements

KEY REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS ROLE:

  • Five years of experience in a similar role; working in a busy pottery studio with operational responsibilities, kiln management, project management and membership organisation elements.
  • Highly motivated, able to work on own initiative.
  • Adaptable, flexible, and reliable with impeccable time management.
  • Organised, methodical, hard-working, and disciplined approach to work.
  • Excellent communication skills, diplomatic and tactful with an ability to represent the Studio professionally to a range of people.
  • Positive and motivated with good judgement about when to work independently and when to collaborate with colleagues or seek help
  • A passion for pottery, ceramics and clay craft.
