DESCRIPTION: 

The Department of Special Education at Nassau BOCES is currently seeking Substitute Teaching Assistants to assist classroom teachers in pedagogical and classroom management tasks.

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to: 

  • Working with individual students or groups of students on special instructional projects under the direction of the classroom teacher.
  • Providing the classroom teacher with information about students that will assist in the development of appropriate learning experiences.
  • Collection of student data and progress monitoring of Individualized Education Program goals where appropriate. 
  • Assisting students in the use of available instructional resources and assisting in the development of instructional materials. 
  • Assisting the classroom teacher with related instructional work as required. 
  • In the absence of the classroom teacher, assume all instructional duties. 

REQUIREMENTS: 

  • New York State Education Department Certification – Teaching Assistant Level I, II or III or New York State Department of Education Teacher Certification (Special Education). 
  • Experience working with special education students with a wide range of needs. 
  • Demonstrate ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. 
  • Experience in providing small group instruction in academic areas is preferred. 
  • Knowledge of Google Classroom and instructional technology. 
  • Knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite and Platforms is preferred. 

SALARY:

As per contract.
