Summer School- English Learner (EL) Teacher-High

Summer School Staff Orientation: July 2-3, 2025

Program Dates: July 7, 2025 – August 1, 2025

Location: Washington-Liberty HS 

Model: IN-PERSON

Summer assignments will be staffed based on student needs. 

English Learner (EL) Teachers:

Grade 8 English BRIDGE to English 9­­­

Grade 9 English BRIDGE to English 10

Grade 10 English BRIDGE to English 1

The high school EL curriculum is based on Language Arts, literature, and thematic units which integrate reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Classes meet daily for one period.

Responsibilities Include:

• Provide instruction for students in identified curriculum and differentiate content based on individual students’ needs.
• Participate in planning and professional learning before summer school.
• Collaborate with staff regarding implementation of instruction, use of assessments and assessment results, and development of differentiated curriculum.
• Ability to work effectively as a team member with colleagues.
• Flexible, dependable, and highly organized.
• Desire to work with a diverse community of learners.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Familiarity with APS (Arlington Public Schools) EL program models and assessment procedures for ELs.

Experience: 

• Knowledge of best instructional practices for ELs (English Learners)
• Ability to integrate technology
• Teaching secondary English Learners ELs
• Personalized learning strategies
• Teaching English Language Arts to EL’s 

Preferred Qualifications:

• ESL endorsement: English endorsement preferred. 
• Available to participate in after-school professional learning activities.
