Summer School Staff Orientation: July 2-3, 2025
Program Dates: July 7, 2025 – August 1, 2025
Location: Washington-Liberty HS
Model: IN-PERSON
Summer assignments will be staffed based on student needs.
English Learner (EL) Teachers:
Grade 8 English BRIDGE to English 9
Grade 9 English BRIDGE to English 10
Grade 10 English BRIDGE to English 1
The high school EL curriculum is based on Language Arts, literature, and thematic units which integrate reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Classes meet daily for one period.
Responsibilities Include:
- Provide instruction for students in identified curriculum and differentiate content based on individual students’ needs.
- Participate in planning and professional learning before summer school.
- Collaborate with staff regarding implementation of instruction, use of assessments and assessment results, and development of differentiated curriculum.
- Ability to work effectively as a team member with colleagues.
- Flexible, dependable, and highly organized.
- Desire to work with a diverse community of learners.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Familiarity with APS (Arlington Public Schools) EL program models and assessment procedures for ELs.
Experience:
- Knowledge of best instructional practices for ELs (English Learners)
- Ability to integrate technology
- Teaching secondary English Learners ELs
- Personalized learning strategies
- Teaching English Language Arts to EL’s
Preferred Qualifications:
- ESL endorsement: English endorsement preferred.
- Available to participate in after-school professional learning activities.
