THE ROLE:

Our summer student program provides an opportunity to experience real-world challenges, collaborate with diverse teams, network with other students and create a vision for your future career path.

Working with our Automation and Controls team in Calgary, this will be a full-time student position from May through August 2025. During your summer, you will gain exposure to the energy industry by attending sessions hosted by subject matter experts and will have an opportunity to showcase your learnings with your student network. HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE:

  • Develop automation applications to support remote operability
  • Optimize the production Human-Machine Interface (HMI) and alarm system to improve operator awareness and reduce manual processes
  • Evaluate and standardize process control algorithms
  • Evaluate and enhance the performance of the company’s field SCADA wireless network
  • Develop reports to support key performance indicators around operator alarms, equipment shutdowns and reliability
  • Integrate data from automation systems with reliability and performance metrics as part of a project to enhance overall facility performance (project scope to be determined based on the selected candidate’s interests and skill set)

WHAT YOU BRING:

  • Actively enrolled in an undergraduate degree or diploma program at a Canadian post-secondary institution, and must be returning to undergraduate studies after the work term
  • Enrolled in the 3rd or 4th year Electrical, Computer, Software or Instrumentation Engineering or a related field
  • Knowledge of Python scripting
  • Knowledge of wireless communication systems, particularly those using 900MHz unlicensed frequency bands would be beneficial
  • Knowledge of process control theory (i.e. PID control) would be beneficial
  • Data science related courses/knowledge would be considered an asset
  • A self-driven and highly motivated individual, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong time and data management skills
