Why does the job exist?

Supervisor, Healthcare Surveyor/Healthcare Surveyor Reviewer – Supervisor will:

  • Ensure the survey reports of regulation of non-compliance, identified in healthcare facilities during survey investigations are defensible;
  • Ensure defensible survey reports require healthcare facilities to implement corrective actions to ensure quality and safety standards for healthcare recipients receiving services which improves health outcomes.

How does it get done?

Supervisor, Healthcare Surveyor/Healthcare Surveyor Reviewer – Supervisor is responsible for:

  • Providing supervision of the survey Reviewers (2) for District Operations, Program Operations and Licensed Oversight Bureaus within the Division of Health Improvement and that survey reports are in alignment with the priorities identified by CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services), state regulation, and the Health Care Authority (HCA).
  • Ensuring deficiencies/citations are written according to Federal guidelines; that the correct State and/or Federal regulations related to quality and safety standards are cited; deficiencies and citations have the necessary supporting documentation and/ or evidence and survey reports are completed within established deadlines.
  • Coordinating the IDR (Informal Dispute Resolution/Review) monthly committee meeting as needed by preparing IDR packets for the committee, scheduling and coordinating the meeting, and outreaching to the facility requester(s) and CMS with the IDR Committee recommendation/outcome.
  • Providing training and guidance to healthcare surveyors on writing deficiencies both verbally and written.

  • DHI Bureau Staff, Managers and Healthcare Surveyors;
  • New Mexico Healthcare Facilities and Providers;
  • New Mexico Residents receiving healthcare services;
  • Centers for Medicare & Medical Services (CMS).

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Nursing, Architecture, Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Rehabilitation, and/or Criminal Justice and two (2) years directly related experience in community based healthcare services and case management. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver’s License. Must Possess and maintain a current Defensive driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting, attending meetings, extensive computer and telephone usage with extended periods of sitting.
