JOB SUMMARY
The Surgery Scheduler/Medical Assistant is a blended role of scheduling surgery and providing medical assistant support for the department. This individual works with department surgeons and their staff to coordinate surgery scheduling. The Surgery Scheduler/Medical Assistant provides information about cases to clinical staff so they can be properly prepared prior to surgery. This individual utilizes skills to ensure hospital inpatient, outpatient, and ambulatory surgeries are scheduled and coordinated accordingly. The Surgery Scheduler/ Medical Assistant provides basic clinical, clerical, and technical support to assist providers in planning for patient’s care, comfort, and safety.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
For positions requiring education beyond a high school diploma or equivalent, educational qualifications must be from an institution whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education and Accreditation.
Minimum Required: Graduate of a Medical Assistant program or documented successful completion of the following courses (or their recognized course equivalent):
Preferred/Optional: Certified Medical Assistant or Licensed Practical Nurse license awarded by the State of Wisconsin.
EXPERIENCE
Minimum Required: One year previous medical appointing experience. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficiently uses computer applications as required for appointing and patient care.
Preferred/Optional: Two years medical appointing experience. Knowledge of surgical procedures and insurance/billing processes.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES
The following licensure(s), certification(s), registration(s), etc., are required for this position. Licenses with restrictions are subject to review to determine if restrictions are substantially related to the position.
Minimum Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association (AHA) within three months of hire.
Preferred/Optional: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association (AHA) at time of hire.
