Surgery Technician I

Overview

We are seeking a Surgical Support Technician to join our dynamic team! This position will focus on overall animal care and welfare, surgery support and selection for customer orders, facility upkeep and recordkeeping and procedural duties. The person in this role will need to feel passionate about working with animals, enjoy and excel at organization, and support and maintain a clean, safe and compliant working environment. We are seeking someone that is hardworking, shows attention to detail, takes initiative, has a teamwork mentality and positive attitude.

Responsibilities

• Cares for animals including feeding, cleaning and surgery support responsibilities
• Follows protocol to ensure the health and welfare of the animals in care
• Coordinate order details to include selection, packaging and confirming accuracy
• Keeps accurate records of feeding, cleaning and care of animals
• Surgery support tasks including preparation of surgical instruments and supplies for surgeons’ use, operate the autoclaves, calibration of animal weight scales, disinfecting surgery equipment, transfer of animals, and weighing animals
• General housekeeping including disinfecting surgical area surfaces on scheduled basis, removing waste from the surgery area, preparing animal cages with bedding and cage labels and cleaning of peripheral support rooms.
• Inventory control including keeping accurate counts of surgery supply levels, rotation of supplies and transfer of supplies to appropriate storage areas
• Animal anesthesia, prep, and post-operative care of surgical animals
• All other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Desire to work with and care for animals on a daily basis
• Interest in animal surgery and care
• Continuous effort toward contributing to a clean and safe working environment
• Ability and willingness to complete paperwork as needed
• Must be available to work weekends/ holidays on a rotating basis
• Willingness to work overtime when needed
• Minimum, high school diploma; pertinent work experience (such as laboratory experience) is preferred.
• Ability to understand the written company standards and verbal instructions in English.
• Basic math skills.
• Respect for animal welfare.
• Ability to work in a team atmosphere.
• Adherence to the company domestic pet policy and biosecurity.

This position requires that the Surgery Support Technician be able to:

• Lift up to 50lbs on occasion
• Stand/walk on concrete for at least 2 hours at a time
• Frequently bend, reach, push, pull, squat and lift
• This position could be offered at different levels for candidates who qualify with a combination of advanced levels of education and/or years of experience. The salary range will adjust along with the level of the role to match the person’s relevant experience and/or education level.
