A Brief Overview

The Surgical Technologist Supervisor handles instruments, supplies, and equipment before, during, and after surgical procedures as well as providing instruction for new hires regarding the appropriate process. Understands the procedures being performed throughout the Surgery department and works collaboratively with the Clinical Educator and Charge Nurses to provide instruction where needed. Ensures quality instruction regarding appropriate patient care during the operative procedure.

Education Qualifications

  • Graduate of structured operating room program required or comparable education with documentation. Required

Experience Qualifications

  • 5 years Experience as a Surgical Technologist. Required

Licenses and Certifications

  • Certified Surgical Technologist – NBSTSA Preferred

What you will do

  • Performs evaluations, coachings and corrective actions to surgical techs in conjunction with service line charge nurse and nurse manager. Performs annual evaluation to surgical tech leads.
  • Works with Single Day Surgery, ENT Surgery Center, and Sterile Processing for adequate staffing and scheduling. Staff meeting development, planning and scheduling. Creates and maintains an overall training schedule for on-going new hires including scheduling and preparation of training facilities.
  • Assist in maintaining policies and procedures related to patient care documentation with Surgery department. Safety, regulatory, quality and performance improvement issues.
  • Makes daily surgical tech assignments based on skill, qualifications and orientation needs.
  • Works with Surgeons and Surgery leadership team in developing Surgery protocols.
  • Assists surgery board runner in daily through put of the OR.
  • Participates in Partners for Success meetings for new surgical tech hires; provides feedback to preceptors and orientees.
  • Works with physicians and other members of OR leadership to ensure service line has appropriate surgical tech support in cases.
  • Assists Nurse Manager and Recruitment team with new applications and interviews.
  • Point person for new instruments in all service lines and assists in education to the surgery team.
  • Assists in onboarding new Advanced Practice Providers with technical skills pertained to scrubbing and sterile technique.
  • Works with Supply Chain and service line charge nurse to find appropriate alternative for backordered supplies. Demonstrates cost effectiveness in use of supplies, instruments and equipment.
  • Participates in annual OR pack review.
  • Provides updates to preference card by communicating to service line charge nurse or lead surgical tech.
  • Obtains competency of scrubbing and sterile technique; scrubs two cases per month and provides record.
