ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: 

Open to licensed NYCDOE grades 6-12 full-time Mathematics, English, Science, or Special Education teachers. (Grades 6-12 Mathematics

or English teachers preferred)

SELECTION CRITERIA: 

1. Successful knowledge of and experience in preparing students for the Specialized High Schools Admissions Test (SHSAT)

2. A demonstrated ability to plan and prepare rigorous, engaging, stimulating, and challenging curriculum materials and activities

for diverse groups of learners

3. Expertise in Kaplan SHSAT test-taking skills and strategies

4. Experience developing engaging projects connected to middle school ELA or math standards.

5. Knowledge of effective practices to foster community, social emotional learning, and collaboration

6. Expertise in using and implementing technology to effectively communicate content, engage learners, and facilitate professional

development

7. Experience planning culturally responsive lessons and/or units of study

8. Successful experience course-planning and creating scope and sequences and lesson plans for SHSAT prep

9. An understanding of the principles of adult learning

10. Experience presenting to adult learners and facilitating professional learning both in-person and virtually

11. Ability to effectively communicate and meet deadlines and deliverable dates

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Develop and draft course plans, unit plans, and pacing guide for DREAM-SHSI summer and fall math or ELA sessions.

2. Develop student tasks and activities that engage and challenge students and are connected to 7th grade math or ELA standards

3. Develop community building lessons and/or experiences with intent to create a strong DREAM-SHSI culture at each site

4. Assist DREAM-SHSI instructional staff in creating professional learning for new and experienced SHSAT-prep teachers

5. Facilitate professional learning for new and experienced SHSAT prep teachers

6. Analyze and review potential curricular materials and ensure alignment with DREAM instructional goals

7. Create professional learning materials for new and experienced SHSAT-prep teachers

8. Manage on-line learning communities for SHSAT prep teachers

9. Conduct classroom visits at DREAM-SHSI sites and collect data to inform planning and staff development needs

WORK SCHEDULE: 

Summer 2024

  • Participate in professional learning planning sessions (Exact dates to be determined)
  • Independent and/or collaborative creation and update of DREAM-SHSI ELA, math, and/or community building summer

curriculum

  • Plan & facilitate professional learning for new and veteran staff (Exact dates to be determined)
  • Conduct classroom visits at DREAM-SHSI summer sites
  • Identify and plan additional professional development to be scheduled as required for DREAM-SHSI summer program
  • Create and/or update DREAM-SHSI fall curriculum
  • Identify and plan additional teaching support and/or materials for DREAM-SHSI fall program
  • Additional work hours may be required on need-basis

Fall 2024

  • Provide curriculum support via online learning communities for fall sessions (1 hour/week); dependent on budget
  • Plan curriculum and professional development needs for spring 2025 sessions (December 2024 -February 2025)
  • Update DREAM-SHSI fall curriculum (if/when needed)

Hours up to, but not limited to the approximate number of hours listed. Additional hours are dependent on program budget and may be

granted upon the approval of the hiring manager.

SALARY:

Per Session rates as per the relevant union/organization of the advertised title (Collective Bargaining Agreement). Contingent upon funding availability and programmatic approval.
