Primary Purpose:

Provide instructional support services Assist in the preparation and management of ELL classrooms, instructional activities, and administrative requirements under the supervision of a certified teacher.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification

< >High school diploma or GED48 college hours or an Associate’s DegreeSBEC Paraprofessional Certification or eligible for certificationHighly Qualified under NCLB standardsEligible to obtain Certification to administer the OLPT in English or SpanishAbility to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics.Ability to work well with childrenKnowledge of general office equipment Previous successful experience working with childrenPerform routine clerical duties for ESL teachers.Assist the ESL teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.Assist with the administration of OLPT tests if certified and LPAC as assigned.Assist in maintaining a neat and orderly ELL classroomAssist in the use, care, and maintenance of technology equipment as requested for use in the ELL classroom.Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reportsWork with individual small groups of ELL students to conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher.Assist in classroom managementConduct parent involvement activitiesAssist in supervising ELL students throughout the school day, both inside and outside of the school.Perform cafeteria duty, bus duty, and playground duty as necessary for ELL students.Assist in the maintenance of the personal hygiene of early childhood ELL students as requested by the teacher.Provide direct instruction of students under the direct supervision of the teacher.Keep teachers informed of special needs or problems of individual students.Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, PTA meetings, and special events, as needed.Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and state and local board policy.Keep informed and comply with all state and district policies and regulations concerning primary job functions.
