Assist teachers in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays for English learner students in Dual Language, ESL and Sheltered classrooms
Provide support to English learner students and families/guardians with diverse language needs
Under direct supervision of a highly-qualified/certified teacher, conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher for English learner students; work with these students individually or in small groups
Keep the teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual English learner students
Provide in-class language support for English learner students at different language proficiency levels
Assist Bilingual ESL and Sheltered teachers with interventions and tutoring on an as needed basis for EL students
Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance (i.e. campus PDs, PLCs, SIM Training)
Participate in faculty meetings and special events related to English learner students as assigned
Perform all other tasks and duties related to English Learners as assigned
All federally funded incumbents of this position must comply with time and effort reporting requirements through personnel activity reports or periodic certification, as appropriate.
Qualifications
Accredited High School Diploma or equivalent (U.S.A. equivalency), plus one of the following: Associate degree, 48 credit hours, or pass an academic assessment
Paraprofessional certificate required from State Board of Certification
Ability to successfully complete assignments with general supervision
Demonstrated general knowledge of child growth/development and behavior characteristics
Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal format
Demonstrated ability to work with people from diverse ethnic groups
Demonstrated initiative and a willingness to follow verbal and written instructions
Demonstrated organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills required to achieve the goals of the position
Knowledge of district organizations, operations, and administrative policies preferred
