The employee performs a variety of tasks for the professional staff in the schools, which supports the educational environment in the classroom. Among the specialty areas are instruction; clerical; behavior; bus driving; computer; and/or, control room. Work requires the performance and demonstration of a variety of competencies.

Instructional

Behavior Intervention Specialist

- Compile and analyze data on individual and county-wide school discipline issues.
- Maintain files, and provide reports to local administrators related to school discipline issues.
- Assist in the development of behavior plans.
- Work with teachers and school administrators to identify ‘at-risk’ students.
- Attends Crisis Intervention Monthly Care Meetings.
- Attends Child Family Treatment meetings.
- Attends weekly MTSS meetings.
- Assists Counselor with Section 504’s.
- Conducts small group/one-on-one therapeutic meetings.
- Conducts classroom observations for identified students.
- Assists in creating safety plans.
- Conducts therapeutic walks and talks with students as needed.
- Assists in communicating the mental health therapeutic treatment of students to parents.

(Sub) Bus Driver

Innovation Station (Computer Lab)

Student Success Coordinator (High School)
Definition
An employee in this position is a Teacher Assistant who is proficient in data analysis, Student Services Management Team (SSMT), and computer software such as Home Base, Plato, North Carolina Virtual Public High School (NCVPHS), Microsoft Excel, and Access. The Student Success Coordinator (SSC) must be able to work flexible hours including Saturday from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm. This employee must be able to work daily from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm or 9:30 am to 4:30 pm. The purpose of this position is Student Management including student attendance, tardies, and other duties assigned by the Administration.
Bilingual ESL Instructional Assistant Middle School (Learning Lab) and ML (Multi-Language) for Elementary
The job of Bilingual ESL Coordinator was established for the purpose/s of assisting in the instruction of limited/non English speaking students, performing classroom and non-classroom translation tasks and serving as a resource to other school personnel requiring assistance with non-English speaking persons. This person will also work with individual and/or small groups of students under the supervision of a certified teacher, instruction of students; and assisting students by modeling the necessary skills to perform assignments. This person must be fluent and able to translate and interpret.
In addition to the Common Competencies and Physical Requirements, the employee in this role:
- Administers chapter or classroom tests, homework, make-up work, etc. for collaborating with the teacher of record to devise special strategies for reinforcing materials or skills based on the understanding of individual students, their needs, interests and abilities.
- Consults with teacher/s, counselor and/or administrator as may be required (e.g. selecting materials to be used, implementing lesson plans, any concerns related to student, special information, special learning needs, cultural appreciation, etc.) for the purpose of receiving and/or conveying information regarding students activities and progress.
- Implements instructional programs and lesson plans for assisting the ESL and classroom teacher in improving students’ academic success through a defined course of study.
- Instructs students individually or in groups with online and in class lesson assignments (e.g. planning daily activities/lessons, modifying lessons, listening to students read, tutoring, etc.) for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts.
- Maintains various records (e.g. forms, pupil profile cards, lesson plans, attendance records, etc.) for providing up to date reference and in compliance with ESL program requirements, which supports the teacher of record.
- Monitors individual and/or groups of students in various activities (e.g. classroom, library, field trips, lunchroom, assemblies, etc.) for providing a safe and positive learning environment.
- Performs record keeping and clerical functions (e.g. maintaining student records, scheduling, copying, translating lesson materials, etc.) for supporting the ESL teacher and/or administrator in providing necessary records/materials.
- Translates verbal communication for assisting students, teachers and parents in communicating effectively.

- Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS)
o Attends and leads MTSS meetings.
o Keeps accurate logs and transcripts of all meetings.
o Follows up with all actions from the MTSS meetings.
o Reports on items from previous MTSS meetings at forthcoming meetings.
o Works closely with the Guidance Counselor, School Nurse, and Social Worker in relation to student issues.
o Sends out meeting notices to all personnel required to attend MTSS meetings on a weekly basis.
o Acts as the contact person for all issues needing MTSS attention such as MTSS referral forms given to this employee prior to each meeting.
- Attendance
o Tracks period attendance and tardies on a daily basis.
o Briefs the Principal, Assistant Principal, and MTSS on a weekly basis on students who are not attending school on a regular basis.
o Manages the attendance recovery policy.
o Manages the attendance make-up process and contacts parents about the tardy and attendance issues via Connect-Ed on a daily basis.
- North Carolina Virtual Public High School (NCVPHS)
o Registers and enrolls students for Learn and Earn and NCVPHS courses.
o Tracks the student’s grades and login time.
o Works with teachers to update them on each student and the progress in the course.
o Communicates with the virtual teacher and the Learn and Earn instructor.
- Credit Recovery During the School Day
o Works with counselors to determine which students could benefit from attending credit recovery.
o Manages the students using PLATO and Study Island.
o Submits grade changes to the Data Manager.
- Grade Recovery
o Develops a list of students needing grade recovery and works with teachers to ensure all qualified students attend grade recovery.
o Contacts the parent of each student attending grade recovery.
o Collects the contracts from the students.
- Data Analysis
o Attends data guru meetings and works with all data files.
o Develops and presents data during faculty meetings.
o Presents reports and analysis of all school data to the Principal and Assistant Principal as required.
- Academic Student Tracking
o Extracts reports from Home Base for students failing every six weeks and semester.
o Works with the Guidance Counselor and teachers of students failing during the interim and six weeks grading period.
o Produces and prints interim reports, six weeks reports, and end-of-semester failure report.
o Briefs Principal and the Assistant Principal on all reports.
- Discipline
o Executes the School-Wide Discipline Plan, which requires students to attend After School Detention (ASD) when they are disciplined for minor violations.
o Contacts parents when students are assigned ASD and Saturday School.
- Web-based Program
o Trains the staff on PLATO, Study Island, and any new web-based programs. Will be responsible for using PLATO and Study Island for grade recovery.
- Saturday School Notices
o Contacts parents and students.
o Provides a letter to students who have to attend Saturday School.
- Performs other related work as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities for Student Success Coordinator
- Knowledgeable and skilled in the use of Microsoft Excel to write formulas and use the majority of the functions to analyze data.
- Knowledgeable and skilled in the use of Microsoft Access to manage and organize large amounts of data.
- Knowledgeable and skilled in the use of Home Base to produce reports for attendance, tardies, and grades.
- Ability to use Connect-Ed to contact parents when students have a large number of tardies or have a history of not attending school on a regular basis.

Physical Requirements
- Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
- Must be able to perform medium work exerting in excess of 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to lift objects.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand and walk. The employee is occasionally required to sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; and climb or balance.

Minimum Education and Experience for All Duties under Teacher Assistant
- High School diploma required.
- Minimum of 48 semester hours from a regionally accredited college/university or an Associate’s Degree from a regionally accredited college
OR
96 CEU’s after 2002 and passing Work Keys Reading (Workplace Documents) test with a 4 of higher, Applied Mathmatics test with a 4 or higher, and Business Writing with a 3 or higher.
- Possess Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or willingness to obtain the CDL and drive the bus as a substitute driver or regular driver, if advertised as part of the duties.
