Position Information Victoria Avenue Public School is situated within a unique community facility, the Victoria Avenue Community Precinct. This precinct includes a Child Care Centre, an Early Childhood Health Centre, an Out of School Hours Care Centre and Victoria Avenue Public School. Victoria Avenue Community Precinct is situated adjacent to Sydney Olympic Park which includes Bicentennial Park. Bicentennial Park is used by teachers and students as an extension of the learning environment of the school.
Victoria Avenue Public School has 380 students of which 72% have a language background other than English. The school also has 5 Inclusive classes, and caters to a diverse community. The school motto is ‘Include, Inspire, Innovate’ which encapsulates the school’s ethos of including all students and families in school programs, inspiring the school community to strive for excellence in education and aspire towards future focused education for all students.
Specific Selection Criteria
1. Approval to teach primary English as a Second Language or currently completing or currently enrolled in an approved postgraduate qualification for teaching English as a Second Language primary as recognised by the NSW Department of Education.
2. Demonstrated evidence-leading professional learning and collaborating with staff to incorporate EALD strategies into daily classroom practice.
3. Ability to use assessment tools, ESL Scales and EALD Learning Progressions to assess student language development and inform programming.
4. Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively in a variety of teams and build positive relationships with all members of the school community.
Conditions An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
