Position Summary:
The Teaching Assistant will assist in weekly laboratory activities, which consist of identifying anatomical structures using pre-dissected cadaveric specimens (prosections) and body donors. Prior to each lab session, the Teaching Assistant will be responsible for familiarizing themselves with the content topics as well as answering questions from undergraduate course assistants. The Teaching Assistant is also responsible for the coordination of undergraduate course assistants, reinforcing the laboratory rules and code of conduct in the lab, as well as ensuring proper set-up and clean-up in the lab.
The Teaching Assistant will be involved in the weekly laboratory instruction, working with groups of students to identify details of the gross anatomy of the musculoskeletal system and dissection of the lower extremities at an undergraduate level. Teaching Assistant will assist in setting up, implementing, grading, and invigilating the course assessments relating to the lab activities. The Teaching Assistant, in liaison with the course instructor and Anatomy Lab support staff, is required to coordinate and assign duties to undergraduate course assistants. The Teaching Assistant will need to be available for all labs of the ANAT 314 course..
Qualifications:
Successful completion of ANAT 314 (or an equivalent musculoskeletal anatomy course) to ensure a solid foundational knowledge of the subject matter is required. Holding a past course assistant position in ANAT 314 (or an equivalent musculoskeletal anatomy course) is a strong asset. Other prior teaching experience in dissection- or prosection-based cadaveric laboratories is an additional asset. The Teaching Assistant should demonstrate leadership skills when supervising undergraduate students and exhibit proven coordination and management skills. Prior study and detailed understanding of the gross anatomy of the musculoskeletal system, relating to bones, joints, muscles, and neurovascular structures within the head, neck, trunk, upper, and lower limb regions of the human body, is required, including laboratory experience with cadaver specimens. Proven organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy are required.
Effective communication skills in English (spoken and written) are essential.
