Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit

The Department of Germanic and Slavic Languages and Literatures (http://gsll.unc.edu/) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is hiring a tenure track Assistant Professor in German. The position will involve active and ongoing participation in the Carolina-Duke Graduate Program in German Studies. The successful candidate will maintain an active research program, teach a range of courses in German, and perform service for the department.

Position Summary

This position will teach one section of introductory Ukrainian (UKRN 401) beginning in Fall 2025 (August 18 – December 12). This is a part-time, fixed-term, renewable position at. Strong candidates should also be prepared to teach second- and third-semester Ukrainian if the position is renewed.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

A M.A. degree (or foreign equivalent) in Slavic languages and literatures or closely related field is required by July 1, 2025.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

Strong candidates are expected to possess knowledge of and experience in current best practices for the teaching of Ukrainian as a foreign language at the collegiate level. Native or near-native proficiency in Ukrainian and English required.
