Job Description

Are you an experienced Technical Manager looking for the stability of joining an established in-house team?

Would you relish the opportunity to be involved in servicing all Italia Conti productions?

We’re looking for an enthusiastic Technical Manager to lead on the technical aspects of Italia Conti’s productions in our in-house theatre and at external venues.

It’s a pivotal role which involves a high level of initiative in taking responsibility for all the technical aspects of individual performances, operating shows and ensuring that lighting, sound, video and domestic equipment is properly maintained. It also includes overseeing the operation of our in-house audio-visual studio for classes in radio. The role encompasses Health & Safety responsibilities including fire safety, supervising our backstage areas and construction of sets for productions, ensuring routine maintenance and risk assessments are carried out and to support Italia Conti in its adherence to all statutory guidelines in the area of Health & Safety.

With students of Acting, Musical Theatre and Dance studying full-time on our diploma and degree programmes, our Saturday Associate School and community classes, we’re a hive of activity from dawn ’til dusk during term-time. We love what we do, and that’s why it’s imperative that your conversance with technical theatre is steeped in a desire to be part of a training institution.

Key to your success in the post is a proactive mindset, a high level of initiative and a willingness to get involved in all aspects of the work of the production team, particularly in the area of sound and lighting programming. In return you will benefit from being part of a friendly, collegial group of co-workers and the broad experience of our established production team.

Job Requirements

  • Leading on the technical aspects of Italia Conti’s stage productions and set construction, ensuring that that Italia Conti’s production values are maintained and continually improved.
  • Ensuring all events at Italia Conti operate smoothly and effectively from a technical standpoint.
  • Maintaining an accurate record of production and technical equipment and resources allocated to the production department, ensuring that efficient and organised storage, systems of hire and student access to resources are maintained in partnership with the Production Manager.
  • Ensuring the production and backstage spaces at Woking are effectively managed so that the use of space is optimised, and that equipment is efficiently stored and maintained and that appropriate systems and a rolling programme of work is in place throughout the year to achieve this.
  • Managing stock and maintenance budgets and keeping financial records in partnership with the Production Manager.
