The University of New Mexico’s Gallup Branch, Fine Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences Division, anticipates hiring adjunct faculty to teach face-to-face and/or develop lower division courses (1000/2000 Level) in the Spring, Summer, and Fall 2024 semesters in the following potential disciplines:

English100 (College Reading and Writing)

English 1110X-1110Y (Composition I: Stretch I and II)

English 1110 (Composition I)

English 1110Z (Enhanced Composition)

English 1120 (Composition II)

UNM Gallup is a two-year branch campus of the University of New Mexico located approximately 130 miles west of Albuquerque. The University of New Mexico established branch colleges to provide the highest quality of education for students pursuing post-secondary education at different locations throughout the state. Branch colleges respond specifically to the unique needs and multicultural backgrounds of their respective communities by offering community education programs, career and technical education including certificate and associate degree programs, and transfer programs that prepare students for upper division entry into colleges and universities. 

The Fine Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences Division at UNM Gallup is seeking a qualified temporary part-time faculty member to teach lower division classes in various courses or topics as specified above. UNM Gallup instructors are responsible for all aspects of any class they are teaching including but not limited to meeting face-to-face with the class during assigned times that may include evenings or weekends, content delivery, assignment development, grading assignments, reporting of grades, and assessment of student learning as outlined by the division chair.

Positions are contingent upon need each semester as determined by student enrollment levels, current course offering matrix, and demand driven by graduation requirements. Positions may be filled or eliminated each semester up to the deadline for students to drop or add courses. Candidates who are selected for these positions will report to the division chair.

Salary dependent on qualifications.


Adjunct Faculty are currently compensated on the basis of their credentials and credit hour course loads, as follows:

Credentials Rate Per Credit Hour

Terminal Degree, plus 12 hours College teaching $1,017.88

Terminal Degree, less than 12 hours College teaching $976.98

Master’s Degree, plus 12 hours College teaching $932.46

Master’s Degree, less than 12 hours College teaching $885.53

May 31, 2024 for Fall 2024 Semesters

QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in English or a related field; OR Master’s degree and successful completion of at least 18 graduate credit hours in English or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in English or related field
  • Successful teaching experience in a post-secondary institution or successful teaching in a community college
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities
