The program is high-touch, rigorous, and fast-paced, providing intensive English language and academic skills training as well as orientation to US academic culture. Programs run year-round, comprising both EAP (English for Academic Purposes) and ESP (English for Specific Purposes) cohorts (in fields such as architecture, law, and business). The ELI works closely with schools and colleges on campus, as well as with sponsoring organizations, such as IIE (Fulbright). The institute participates in the University’s Internationalization Council, and works collaboratively with schools and colleges on devising ways to provide the best possible support for international students and on maximizing their engagement and integration in the University community.

The program requires dynamic, engaging, and energetic instructors with excellent communication skills who will be responsible for instruction, contribute to the curriculum, and be part of a team. Candidates must possess native or near native English proficiency. Instructors teach up to three EAP courses per 15-week session (21 hours weekly) in fall and spring, and up to three courses per 6-week session in the summer (25 hours weekly). For ESP contract courses, employment dates are specified by the contract, and can run between four and eight weeks.
