Job Description

The Northern Nevada International Center at the University of Nevada, Reno is seeking to hire Refugee Case Aides. The NNIC is continually expanding its scope of services for our Refugee Resettlement Program. The NNIC resettles refugees, asylees, and victims of trafficking in the upcoming year. This position is federally funded by the Department of Health and Human Services and is designed to support refugees and humanitarian parolees.

The Refugee Case Aide manages a broad array of social service and employment assistance for federally funded and mandated programs. The Refugee Case Aid will be responsible for case noting services that are provided to clients, initiate financial transactions for refugees and for refer clients for employment, English as a Second language (ESL) training and all other federal and state requirements as required by federal law. The incumbent works closely with the case managers and financial team.

Responsibilities

Program Support (50%)

  • Conduct intake appointments with clients and determine eligibility for various programs
  • In Coordination with the case management team, support eligible clients for medical, health, employment, education, and other social services as needed and requested by clients during the post-90-day-after arrival period
  • In coordination with case management team, seek housing for newly arriving refugees, set up apartment/home for move-in, and assist with core services during the initial 90-day arrival period
  • Transport clients to appointments related to health, employment, welfare, education, and other social services as needed

Financial Administration (30%)

  • Document all expenditures during program periods and request financial documentation in coordination with case managers and the financial team
  • Distribute RCA checks to eligible clients in collaboration with the case manager, track client non-compliance and issue warnings, and if necessary, issue notice of termination
  • Provide receipts and complete all financial transactions in compliance with NNIC and federal requirements immediately after service provision

Record Keeping (10%)

  • Complete case notes for all clients immediately after services and ensure that case files comply with federal regulations for each client
  • Keep professional and accurate documentation including assessments, clients’ service plans, and case notes
  • Organize and maintain records of all meetings and discussions and enter case files.
  • Perform monthly reconciliation of client direct assistance payment and other financial record keeping as required

Administration (10%)

  • Attending all training and contractual meetings, as needed
  • Attend all staff meetings and provide weekly updates to case managers, financial team, and executive director
  • Provide backup support to all Refugee Resettlement Team members, as needed
  • Perform all other duties assigned by direct supervisor, program/case manager and executive director

Required Qualifications

  • Candidate must have a Valid Class “C” driver’s license or higher operator’s license at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment
  • Candidate must have knowledge in computer literacy (i.e. proficient in Microsoft Office, typing, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Candidate that is bilingual or multilingual is preferred but not required

Physical Demands/Working Conditions

  • This position requires direct transport of clients to appointments
  • This position requires in-person and direct contact, fieldwork
  • This position requires a flexible schedule, as needed for refugee arrivals and emergencies
  • This position requires occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs. for refugee assistance
