Job Summary:

Instruct college students in accordance with educational theories and techniques. Develops discipline related curricula, assess student learning, participates in program evaluation, and college activities. Maintains college and department standards in support of the College’s mission and strategic plan.

The Upward Bound (UB) is a U.S. Department of Education TRIO Program designed to generate in low-income, potential first-generation college students the skills and motivation necessary to complete a secondary education and then enter a post-secondary education and succeed in completing a higher education program. The Upward Bound emphasizes preparation in English, Math, Foreign Languages, and Laboratory Science. Additionally, there are many activities, field trips, college visits, and other experiences designed to help students grow and mature. Position requires a dynamic and highly interactive person to interface with and teach high school students in grades (9th-12th) in English (levels to be determined). UB will be incorporating the educational software called “Edgeunity”. As such, the instructor will be responsible for monitoring students’ subject progress and ensuring that all students take a pre-and post-assessment, as well as providing individual assistance to ensure that each student is on track to complete course(s) within the allotted time frame. Instructors will be expected to generate numerous progress reports for students and the UB staff.

Certified instructors- $27.00 an hour and non-certified- $21.00 an hour.

Minimum Requirements

• Master’s degree in English, Literature, Creative Writing, or Linguistics or Master’s degree and 18 graduate semester hours in English, Literature, Creative Writing, or Linguistics
