We are particularly interested in applicants with a background in Renewable Energy or Sustainable Materials; however, candidates with alternative areas of expertise will also be considered. Prior industrial experience in these areas is considered an asset. The successful candidate must be registered or be eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with the provincial regulating body, Engineers Nova Scotia.

The Division of Engineering supports six full-time faculty and recently relocated to a dedicated, modern, 28,000 sq ft building on campus. As part of the Associated Universities system in Nova Scotia, the Division of Engineering offers the first two years of the Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) program, with students having the option to stay at Saint Mary’s for a third year and earn a combined Diploma in Engineering plus Bachelor of Science. Pending approval, the University also has plans to launch a Bachelor of Engineering in Resource Engineering program. At the graduate level, faculty supervise students within the Faculty of Science’s Master’s and PhD in Applied Science program.

The Faculty of Science, which houses the Division of Engineering, has undergone significant renewal, with many renovated and upgraded spaces and facilities, a vibrant culture of teaching excellence, and high level of research productivity. We are working to establish and build upon areas of distinct research strength and through those foster collaborations locally, regionally, and internationally, as reflected in our Strategic Research Plan (https://news.smu.ca/research-plan).

The successful candidate must:

• hold an undergraduate Engineering degree and PhD;
• be licenced as a Professor Engineer in Nova Scotia or be eligible and willing to obtain licensure;

• have a strong commitment to collegial service.

We are particularly interested in applicants with a background in Renewable Energy or Sustainable Materials; however, candidates with alternative areas of expertise will also be considered. Prior industrial experience in these areas is considered an asset.

Job Information and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to the development and delivery of undergraduate engineering courses. In addition to undergraduate teaching, the new faculty member will be expected to establish an active, externally funded research program and will have the opportunity to supervise graduate students in the Faculty of Science’s MSc and PhD in Applied Science programs.
