The University of South Dakota Department of English invites applicants for a tenure-track assistant professor position in postcolonial anglophone literature.

Responsibilities:

1) This position has an expectation of a 2/2 classroom teaching load per academic year (12 credits), an active research agenda, and an engaged service role.

2) Teaching responsibilities may include undergraduate literature survey courses, courses within the Honors program, upper-level undergraduate courses for English majors, and graduate seminars in the successful candidate’s areas of expertise.

3) The successful candidate will advise undergraduate and graduate students as well as serve on thesis and dissertation committees.

4) The successful candidate will advance initiatives in the areas of digital, public, and/or applied humanities. Upper-level undergraduate courses in English are frequently cross-listed with courses in other programs in the College of Arts & Sciences, such as Sustainability; Native Studies; Theatre; Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies; and Philosophy. The successful candidates will contribute to building and maintaining these relationships.

Required qualifications for this position:

1) A PhD in English or closely related field

2) Teaching Experience

3) Potential for successful research

Preferred qualifications for this position:

1) Experience with or potential for interdisciplinary collaboration

2) Engagement with departmental service

3) Experience in multiple teaching modalities

The English programs at the University of South Dakota include B.A. and B.S. degrees in English with specializations available in English, creative writing, and professional writing. The M.A. and Ph.D. programs in English at USD include literary critical and creative writing tracks. The Department of English houses the quarterly literary journal South Dakota Review, the award-winning student-run Vermillion Literary Project, the state’s only chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, the independent Astrophil Press, the biannual Vermillion Writing and Literature Conference, and a robust calendar of visiting writers and scholars.
