Tenure-Track Position in English

Applications are invited for a probationary (tenure-track) position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Department of English and Writing Studies, to begin July 1, 2025. We are seeking an emerging researcher and teacher with leadership potential to be appointed as the James and Eva Good Chair in English Literature. Preference will be given to candidates with a demonstrated research and teaching interest in one or more of the following fields: Black, Canadian, Diasporic, Indigenous, or Postcolonial Literatures. An ability to contribute to one or more of our constituent programs (see below) would also be an asset. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Competitive applicants will demonstrate a strong commitment to research, teaching, and service. Those who have interests in theories and methodologies involving decolonization, resurgence, critical race theory, disability studies, and gender and sexuality are particularly encouraged to apply. Applicants should have the PhD in hand or be in the final stages of its completion and have fluent written and oral communication skills in English.

The successful applicant will participate in a department offering a range of courses and programs, will propose and teach upper-level courses in their areas of expertise, and will share in the teaching of core courses in the undergraduate and graduate curricula. The successful candidate may also supervise undergraduate honours theses, MA Independent Research Projects, and PhD dissertations.

The Department of English and Writing Studies is a vibrant constellation of units, with over 40 full-time tenured members covering a wide range of historical fields and methodologies. Our offerings include longstanding English graduate and undergraduate programs as well as undergraduate programs in Writing Studies, Film Studies, Theatre Studies, and Medieval Studies. Our curriculum includes a field- bridging Honours Specialization in Creative Writing and English Language and Literature. It is expected that the successful applicant will have the credentials to apply for and secure tri-council funding/grants from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) or Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR).
