Job Description

The College of Arts & Sciences (COAS) at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University–Worldwide Campus (ERAU-W) seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Rhetoric & Composition. The successful candidate will serve as Director of the Virtual Environment for Communication: Teaching, Outreach, and Research (VECTOR).

Overseen by the Office of the Dean, VECTOR hosts the Virtual Communication Lab (VCL), a fully online multiliteracy tutoring center, as well as providing research support for students and faculty. VECTOR Director duties include managing faculty and student tutors, overseeing teaching and research support programming, and collaborating with campus and university stakeholders such as the Office for Undergraduate Research, the Rothwell Center for Teaching and Learning, and the Hunt Library.

Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Composition, English, Writing Studies, or a related field. The anticipated starting date is January 1, 2025.

The Department of Humanities and Communication houses the first-year writing program; general education courses in speech, business and technical communication, literature, and humanities; as well as a Bachelor of Science in Communication and minors in Communication, Risk, Crisis and Resilience Communication, as well as Humanistic STEM.

Teaching duties will also include general education courses in first-year writing, communication, humanities, and/or literature. The typical teaching load for tenure-track faculty at ERAU-Worldwide is seven courses per year, distributed across four nine-week terms. Teaching modalities primarily include asynchronous and synchronous online delivery. A limited number of face-to-face offerings may be available based on faculty location. Course releases are available to support significant research and institutional service contributions.

Faculty are active scholars in their disciplines and collaborators across the college and with external partners; the successful candidate will maintain an exemplary level of research and scholarly activity. ERAU offers a variety of internal research support programs, including college- and university-level funding opportunities. In addition to the VECTOR Director role, service to the college, campus, university, and a broader community is expected. Service responsibilities may include contributing to student success through recruitment and retention efforts, participating in curriculum and program development, as well as serving on departmental, college, and/or university committees.

This is a fully remote (U.S.) online position with no relocation required; faculty travel at least once per year to attend commencement and mandatory college meetings and events.
