Detailed Job Description
The Department of Cybersecurity in the Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences at RIT invites applications for a full-time tenure-track assistant professor position in the field of cybersecurity, beginning August 2025, with special interest in candidates whose research intersects with artificial intelligence, or which makes use of AI techniques. Successful applicants are expected to contribute to the scholarship of the department and college through externally funded research and through teaching and mentoring of BS, MS, and PhD students.
RIT is making a major investment in cybersecurity, recently receiving a $20 million gift to support our cybersecurity programs, including building the ESL Global Cybersecurity Institute (ESL GCI). ESL GCI brings together over 40 faculty from across the University to address the growing challenges in cybersecurity with an interdisciplinary approach and to establish RIT as a leader in the field. Recently, we have attracted faculty with excellent research records, including multiple publications in venues like IEEE Security & Privacy, USENIX Security, CCS, NDSS, and more. A successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the growth of ESL GCI, playing a critical role in advancing research and education in cybersecurity and collaborating across departments and colleges. The Department:
In 2012, the Department of Cybersecurity was established to address critical security challenges cutting across computing disciplines. The department has 18 full-time faculty and is committed to excellence in teaching and research. The department offers BS and MS degrees in Cybersecurity, with current enrollment of 553 and 77 students, respectively. We also have a Ph.D. program that is administered within GCCIS. We are designated as a National Center for Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense – Research by the Department of Homeland Security and National Security Agency. RIT’s cyber defense team is a perennial contender in the Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition (CCDC) and won the national championship in 2013. RIT is also host to the Global Finals of the National Collegiate Penetration Testing Competition (CPTC), and its team won the finals in 2021. The department engages in a wide range of research in topics, including AI & ML for Cybersecurity, Applied Cryptography, Cybersecurity Pedagogy, Privacy, Software Security, Trusted Computing, Usable Security, and Wireless Security.
