The Description

The History Department at Mount Saint Vincent University invites applications for a tenure-track position in World History, at the Assistant Professor level, starting 1 July 2025. Preference will be given to applicants with expertise in South Asian or East Asian History and whose research brings South or East Asian history into dialogue with other aspects of World History.

Applicants should have a PhD or PhD very near completion in a relevant field.

The History Department has a dynamic undergraduate program and a strong record of excellence in teaching and research. The duties of the successful applicant will include teaching a range of undergraduate courses at all levels, maintaining an active scholarly program, and participating in collegial service.

The regular teaching load is 3:2. The successful applicant will develop courses relating to South Asian or East Asian History that complement the Department’s existing program, including extending to South or East Asia the Department’s emphasis on women and gender. The successful candidate must also be competent to teach the Department’s two first-year World History courses and its third-year Historical Methodologies course. Candidates are encouraged to describe other, secondary areas of teaching interest. Documented experience and expertise in teaching undergraduate courses at all levels are assets.

Applications should include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, teaching dossier (including a statement of teaching philosophy and sample syllabi), statement of current and future research interests, a writing sample such as a dissertation chapter or article, and contact information for three referees.
