The Strategy and Business Economics (SBE) Division of the Sauder School of Business at the University of British Columbia (Vancouver Campus) invites applications for one tenure-track position at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level. We are inviting applications from researchers in the area of industrial organization and business strategy.

Applicants must have a record of research commensurate with the rank and a demonstrated successful experience in teaching, and senior-level candidates should have accomplished excellence in research. Entry level applicants should demonstrate research productivity in industrial organization or a closely related field and should have completed their Ph.D. or be very close to completion. We welcome applications from outstanding candidates who demonstrate a strong interest in applying economic insights to decision-making in businesses. We prioritize candidates with experience and publications but will consider exceptional applicants who are close to completion of their Ph.D.

Duties include developing and maintaining an active research program aimed at making a significant contribution to the profession, teaching in the Undergraduate, MBA and Ph.D. programs, supervising Ph.D. students, as well as contributing to other teaching and administrative initiatives of the Strategy and Business Economics Division and the Sauder School of Business. Candidates at the senior level will be expected to provide leadership that will enhance the reputation of the Strategy and Business Economics Division and the School. Teaching and service requirements are similar to other research-intensive universities.

The Division consists of economists who conduct research in areas such as international trade, industrial organization, public policy, innovation, and urban and real estate economics. More information about the SBE Division can be found on its web site at http://tinyurl.com/zm9ekck. The SBE Division collaborates with the Vancouver School of Economics in a joint Bachelor of International Economics program.

A completed application will include a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, one or two research papers, a record of teaching effectiveness, and letters of reference (three at the assistant professor level and four at the associate or full professor level). The deadline for applications is Friday, November 8, 2024; however, applications may be considered after this date until the position is filled. Applications should be submitted online through https://econjobmarket.org/.

In line with recommendations from the American Economic Association, we will conduct all first-round job interviews via Zoom. This replaces the in-person interviews that are normally
conducted at the ASSA meetings. Following these interviews, candidates who move to the final round of consideration will be asked to visit UBC in person.

Subject to budgetary approval, the position starts on July 1, 2025. Information regarding hiring is available on our website at: http://www.sauder.ubc.ca/Faculty/People/Faculty_Openings
