The Traffic Project Manager selected for this opportunity will gain key public sector experience in traffic project delivery, interagency coordination, and CIP planning—skills that can effectively position you to pursue and obtain highly sought-after public sector roles.We are looking for an Engineer with 8+ years of experience in traffic engineering and project management to support a Traffic Division on a hybrid (on-site and remote) and part-time (approximately 20 hours per week) basis in the Long Beach area.In this role, you will manage and administer a variety of traffic-related projects and programs—from concept to completion. You’ll serve as the primary liaison with design and construction consultants, oversee budgets, coordinate with agencies such as Caltrans and neighboring jurisdictions, and conduct field visits to support planning, design, and construction.   • Bike Lane Projects
  • Roadway Striping Projects
  • ADA Ramps Projects
  • Paving Projects
  • Curb and Gutter Projects

As a Traffic Project Manager, your duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Analyze traffic studies to support infrastructure and safety improvements.
  • Develop and review traffic control plans for a variety of capital and maintenance projects.
  • Lead Capital Improvement Program (CIP) planning and development, including cost estimating, budgeting, and schedule tracking.
  • Provide full lifecycle project management of traffic-related initiatives including:
  • Oversight and coordination of design consultants.
  • Oversight and coordination of construction management consultants.
  • Issuance and tracking of Purchase Orders (POs).
  • Invoice review and processing.
  • Coordinate with external stakeholders such as Caltrans, neighboring cities, utilities, and community groups to ensure effective project delivery and regulatory compliance.
  • Conduct field visits to:
  • Evaluate the need for future projects.
  • Gather site-specific data to support design efforts.
  • Provide direction to contractors during construction.

As a Traffic Project Manager, you will have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of full-time experience in Traffic Engineering within the public sector.
  • Preferred: Professional Engineer (PE) license in California.
  • Demonstrated experience working with Caltrans, local agencies, and other regional stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with administrative procedures specific to a municipal Traffic Division, including procurement and contract oversight.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. (i.e., without time limitations, without restrictions or without need for work sponsorship in the U.S.)
  • Valid CA Driver’s License and proof of insurance

Expected salary

$65 – 80 per hour
