Job Summary
Job Description
We are seeking two individuals to bring key skills to the Board and are keen to hear from candidates with relevant experience.
The first – see our other advertised position – is in communications – marketing, digital engagement and PR to strengthen the charity’s public profile, broaden its reach, and increase awareness and impact.
The second – here – is in museum or attraction curation, heritage interpretation, and visitor experience to help guide the charity’s work in conserving, presenting, and sharing the RYH with the public.
Trustees are normally appointed for an initial term of three years. As it can take time to settle into the role and make a meaningful contribution, we ask that applicants feel able to commit to at least this period. Trustees may be reappointed for up to three terms, for a maximum of nine years of service.
How much time will I need to devote to being a Trustee at RYH?
In a typical year, Trustees are expected to:
– Attend approximately four Board meetings per year (around two hours each)
– Read papers and prepare in advance of meetings
– Take part in additional meetings or discussions, online or in person
– Attend events, e.g. fundraising, when possible
We anticipate the time commitment to total around 3-4 days a month.
Job Requirements
Desirable experience in several of these fields:
Museum curation and collections expertise: Experience in museum or heritage curation, conservation of materials, including developing displays, exhibitions, interpretation materials, object selection, storytelling, and collections-based engagement.
Visitor experience development: A strong understanding of how visitors interact with heritage sites, including experience designing or improving visitor journeys, access, engagement, learning opportunities, and audience satisfaction.
Heritage interpretation and storytelling: Ability to translate historical, architectural, and cultural information into compelling narratives that connect with diverse audiences.
Audience development and inclusion: Experience identifying and responding to different audiences, improving accessibility, and creating welcoming experiences for communities, families, volunteers, and visitors.
How to Apply
Your CV and a supporting letter outlining your interest in the role and the skills or experience you would bring. A visit to the house will be arranged before making the appointment.
