TWO TENURE-TRACK FACULTY POSITIONS IN MINING ENGINEERING

The Bharti School of Engineering and Computer Science in the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Architecture at Laurentian University invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for two tenure-track faculty positions in Mining Engineering at the rank of Assistant Professor. The preferred start is January 1, 2025.

The successful candidates will be part of the School’s Mining Engineering program and on track to be, or currently be, a P.Eng. with license to practise engineering in Ontario or another province in Canada. The successful candidates will hold a doctoral degree in Mining Engineering or a related discipline, and alongside having published their research in high quality, peer-reviewed journals or periodicals, will have demonstrated positive and accelerating impact of their research by other means including, for example, through adoption of systems, devices or techniques by those routinely practising in the mining engineering industry. Industry experience is considered an asset.

The successful candidates will have the following essential qualifications:
• A doctoral degree in a relevant field at the time of appointment.
• Demonstrated commitment to pedagogical and academic excellence.
• Track record of publications in peer-reviewed literature.
• Commitment to promoting a diverse, inclusive and vibrant academic and work environment.
• Broad areas of specialization will be considered including but not limited to mine digitalization
possibly involving artificial intelligence methods, blasting and explosives, underground mine planning and optimization, mine seismicity monitoring and data analysis, critical minerals’ development, green mining technologies, computational geostatistics and geometallurgy.

In addition to active engagement and participation in teaching and research, the successful candidates will be expected to have an on-campus presence and make contributions through service to the School, Faculty, University, and broader community. They will also be required to become passively bilingual as a condition of tenure.

The School of Engineering and Computer Science offers undergraduate programs leading to degrees in Computer Science, Chemical, Mechanical, and Mining Engineering (each with Co-op option), M.Sc. in Computational Sciences, as well as M.Eng., M.A.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Engineering Science with named specialties. Our engineering programs incorporate innovative approaches to engineering education, with emphasis on professional skills development and building a rapport with students. Across our science and engineering disciplines, our complement of 28 faculty members, three technologists and two administrators are young, dynamic and enthusiastic and form a close-knit team that facilitates learning and development of undergraduate and graduate students (course-based and thesis-based). School leadership is strong and guided by an active, industry-led International Advisory Board.

• A research statement, including a description of potential research projects to initiate at Laurentian.
