Are you interested in being a part of a group of students helping to improve teaching and learning at American University? Are you looking for a flexible, paid leadership experience that will enhance your skills in communication, collaboration, and research?

The Center for Teaching, Research, & Learning (CTRL) invites applications for CTRL Student Partners for Spring 2025. Student Partners work directly with CTRL staff to bring their voice and perspectives to the conversation about teaching and learning at AU and integrate the student experience in CTRL’s work. The position is available for current American University undergraduate students. We are interested in undergraduate student applicants from all majors, who will be at least sophomore standing upon starting. Applicants should demonstrate dedication to the student academic experience at AU, and be self-driven, creative, and collaborative. Priority deadline to apply: October 25th. Final deadline: November 1st.

Responsibilities:

1.) Insight Sharing

  • Student partners meet weekly as a group and with the CTRL team to discuss how to strive for equity and inclusion in teaching and learning at AU.
  • In that way, student partners serve as an informal student advisory board to CTRL.

2.) Resource Development

  • Student partners work on projects of interest over the semester, based on individualized goals, and develop related resources to distribute to the campus community.
  • This work may include creating a video, podcast, infographic, or written resources about the student experience in general, or on a specific topic related to teaching and learning.

3.) Event Contribution

  • Student partners provide feedback on CTRL events, provide video, audio, and/or written testimonials to be shared at CTRL events, or participate in CTRL events.

4.) Meeting with Instructors

  • Student partners, if interested, may be available to meet one on one with instructors to discuss teaching, provide written feedback on course materials, and/or sit in on an instructor’s class to provide feedback.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

  • Part-Time.
  • 3-5 hours per week (flexible).
  • Start Date: Between January 6th and January 13th, 2025.
  • Student partners should expect to attend a 1-hour weekly meeting with the group and dedicate approximately 2-4 additional hours per week to work on their personal projects on their own time.
  • Student partner work follows the semester schedule.

Salary Range:

  • $17.50 per hour.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Current undergraduate student, at least sophomore standing
  • There is no required previous work experience; however, applicants should demonstrate: commitment to teamwork, innovation, and equity, well-developed oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, openness to giving and receiving feedback, desire to develop leadership skills, dedication to improving the student academic experience at AU
