Job Details:

Purpose

Support research and development activities in the Environmental Sciences Laboratory (ESL).

Responsibilities

  • Direct, perform, and develop advanced engineering and scientific research projects for a University Affiliated Research Center (UARC).
  • Contribute to management efforts for the execution of research programs including project tasking, timelines, budgets, staffing, reporting, and deliverables. Facilitate research efforts as required and assist with execution of tasks as needed.
  • Coordinate and manage internal project meetings to facilitate group planning and progress reporting.
  • Process and analyze acoustic data, as well as model acoustic behavior, for developing, testing, and evaluating SONAR systems.
  • Travel to remote locations to provide support for data collection and processing efforts at sites and at sea.
  • Preparation and review of analysis presentations and technical reports, and presentation of results at internal and external meetings. Would include travel to present at external working group meetings, as well as directly to sponsors.
  • Collaborate with and participate in dynamic, multi-functional teams in support of specific program objectives.
  • Assist with data transfer processes and ensure compliance with security requirements.
  • Work on special projects as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Project Management, or related discipline.
  • Three years of experience with project management or program management in a science or engineering R & D environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively, both independently and collaboratively, with a strong commitment to contribution and enabling the entire team.
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows and MS Office products for project reporting, and with MATLAB for data analysis.
  • The position requires attention to detail, effective problem solving, sound engineering judgment, good communication skills, and the ability to use time effectively in order to meet deadlines.

Applicant must have a dynamic skill set, be willing to work with new technologies, be highly organized and capable of planning and coordinating multiple tasks and managing their time. Ability to work independently with sensitive and confidential information, maintain a professional demeanor, work as a team member without daily supervision, and effectively communicate with all groups of clients. Able to work under pressure and accept supervision. Regular and punctual attendance.

Eligibility for access to all levels of classified information authorized by the project sponsor(s) must continue without interruption during employment, including the successful completion of security polygraph examination(s), as required by the sponsor(s).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Program Management, or related discipline.
  • Two or more years of experience with one or more of the following: analysis of acoustic data, signal processing or automation algorithms design, and/or estimating SONAR system performance.
  • Current or recent eligibility for access to classified information.
  • Experience with remote field work either at sea or in geophysical applications.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with software design, programing, and analysis using MATLAB, Python/SciPy, and/or Linux shell scripting.
  • Experience summarizing analysis results in PowerPoint and presenting research results.
  • Proven ability to work independently, formulate research questions, and take initiative.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0, with 3.5 in major coursework.

Salary Range

$104,000-$174,000+/negotiable depending on qualifications.
