Job Opportunity: 

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance is seeking an Underwriting Technician (UT) for our growing Accident and Health Division. The selected candidate will work side by side with our Employer Stop Loss Underwriting team with opportunity for career growth. The position is based in Indianapolis, IN or Plymouth Meeting, PA.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Assist remote underwriting support team and Underwriters in managing the stop loss Request for Proposal (RFP) process.
• Assist with new case and renewal set up in ESL Office (Employer Stop Loss Software) including uploading documents, importing census data/reports, loading Terms and Benefits to be quoted and completing the Competitive Analysis information.
• Interface and liaise with remote underwriting support team to ensure consistent, accurate and timely entries. The position will provide backup up support for the remote team as needed, assist in training and respond to inquiries. UT will perform peer review of other UT work prior to release of official documents.
• Obtain additional information from producers that is necessary to complete underwriting process.
• Prepare census in appropriate format for upload into the Gradient/ SAIL Voyager Platform to assist in the underwriting process.
• Assist Medical Risk Consultants with upload of clinical reviews in ESL Office (Employer Stop Loss Software).
• Ensure proposal contingencies are satisfactorily met prior to acceptance of risk and issuance of policy.
• Prepare Stop Loss Applications and Policies for delivery to producer and the sales team.
• Review Plan Documents, census reports, and aggregate reports for completeness and to ensure they properly reflect the risk we agree to accept.
• Run reports for underwriters and management as requested.
• Develop documentation to support the UT function including process documents, training documents as needed.
• Assist in documenting system functionality and UT workflow.
• Assist in training future UT hires.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

• 2+ years of stop loss underwriting support experience, preferred
• 2+ year experience in customer service environment, preferred
• Ability to work in high volume, rapid response environment
• Ability to multi-task and shift priorities as needed without difficulty
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point)
• Experience with ESL Office (aka “Connexure”) or similar software supporting stop loss, preferred
