Job Description
Overview:
The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) offers a one-year, dedicated fellowship in Burn and Acute Care Surgery. Based at the South Carolina Burn Center – one of the largest and most comprehensive burn centers in the Southeast – this position provides extensive clinical and research experience in the management of burn injuries, acute surgical critical care, and complex wound care. Fellows will develop advanced competency in all aspects of burn surgery, including acute resuscitation, operative burn care, reconstructive procedures, and the multidisciplinary management of critically ill surgical patients.

Supervision:
The fellowship operates under the supervision of faculty within the South Carolina Burn Center and MUSC’s Division of Acute Care Surgery, ensuring comprehensive clinical mentorship and research guidance throughout the fellowship year.
Patient Population:
Fellows will care for a diverse range of critically ill and injured patients, including those with major thermal injuries, chemical and electrical burns, inhalation injuries, toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN), Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS), complex wound infections, traumatic wounds, and acute/chronic wounds, skin conditions of other etiologies, and patients requiring acute surgical critical care. The South Carolina Burn Center serves as the regional referral center for burn injuries across South Carolina and neighboring states, providing fellows exposure to a high-volume, acuity-rich clinical environment.

Qualifications:
All applicants must have successfully completed an ACGME-accredited residency in General Surgery. Applicants must be board eligible or board certified in both General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care at the time of application. Fellowship candidates with prior burn surgery exposure or critical care training are encouraged to apply.
