Mission and objectives

UNISFA was established in July 2011 under authority of the UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO). UNISFA is mandated to Strengthen the capacity of the Abyei Police Service (APS) by providing support, including the training of personnel, and coordinate with the APS on matters of law and order, Monitor and verify the redeployment of armed forces from the Abyei area in accordance with the 20 June 2011 Agreement, Provide de-mining assistance and technical advice, Facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid and free movement of humanitarian personnel in coordination with relevant Abyei Area bodies, When requested and in cooperation with the APS, provide security for oil infrastructure in the Abyei Administrative Area (AAA) and later to organize the referendum
The Council also authorized UNISFA under Chapter VII to:
• Protect UN Personnel, facilities, installations, and equipment.
• Ensure the security and freedom of UN and humanitarian personnel and members of the Joint Military Observers Committee and Joint Military Observer Teams established by the 20 June Agreement.
• Protect civilians under imminent threat of physical violence; and protect the Area from incursions by unauthorized elements and ensure security.


This position is in the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA). The UNV Transport Assistant – Spare parts Data Entry Operator) reports to the Chief Transport Officer to support operations in Transport Unit.

Task description

Under the direct supervision of Chief Transport Officer , the UN volunteer will undertake the following tasks:
• Assist in data management of Spare Parts inventory of Heavy and Light vehicles in softwares used by the organization.
• Should be able to use software like SAP/Umoja and produce reports on fleet vehicles allocation, upload hand over notes in Umoja/ERP software for proper accounting of fleet.
• Keep accurate electronic records and maintain archive secured and in order; and maintain appropriate and accurate records of fleet assets in SAP/umoja database.
• Assist in ensuring that electronic records are maintained for non-expandable transport assets, including records in fleet management databases and report preparation.
• Provide assistance in ensuring that vehicle write-off cases are processed in UMOJA / ERP in accordance with the established procedures and deadlines.
• Assist in the provision of inputs for statistical report generated from Umoja / ERP on fleet and spare parts utilization to enhance efficiency.
• Provides competent administrative and managerial support to the Transport Unit.
• Assist with the preparation and management of the Transport Section’s budget (spare parts requirements related); Coordinate transport activities in the field offices with the Head Office;
• Works in UN software systems such as UMOJA/SAP
• Performs any other tasks that maybe required.
Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers Programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities:
• Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day);
• Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country.
• Provide annual and end of assignment self- reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities.
• Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.
• Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers;
• Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.
