BluePearl Pet Hospital is hiring an exceptional Surgery Veterinary Technician for Surgery treatments, hospitalization, and post-operative care to join our Monroeville, PA, Surgery team!

Pay: $20.00 – $40.00 / hour

• This pay band is a starting point and is dependent on experience and advancement through CareerTrax leveling system
• This position qualifies for additional shift differential pay.

You will have the opportunity to work with our amazing Board-Certified Surgeons. Most of our cases are orthopedics, soft tissue, neurological, and more! There is no ER service, no weekend hours, and we are generally closed for the 6 major holidays each year. If you’re interested in using the newest innovative anesthetic protocols and anesthetic management, then this is the place for you! 

As a Surgery Veterinary Technician you will be responsible for some post-operative client communication, observing post-op patients, and must be able to work independently while contributing to a larger team goal. 

As a Surgery Veterinary Technician , you will:

• Provide nursing care to stable patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
• Ability to take the patient through the entire procedure from start to finish:
• Pre-op: Comfortable with intubation, induction, post-operative diagnostics, and prepping patients for surgery
• Peri-Op: Monitoring Anesthesia and ability to troubleshoot
• Post- Op: Hospitalization care, radiographs, pain management, extubating, fluid therapy
• Comfortable with assessing patients, and collecting vitals
• Performs physical exam; accurately counts heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
• Understand normal vital parameters and alerts doctor when abnormal.
• Set up constant rate infusions (CRI).
• Able to set up intravenous fluids.
• Administers subcutaneous fluids.
• Can operate all brands of intravenous fluid pumps and can troubleshoot errors.
• Able to disconnect and connect patients from intravenous fluids aseptically.
• Ability to monitor patient response to fluid therapy, including signs of overload.
• Client communication with patient histories, care instructions, lab results, patient updates.

Our Continuing Education Plan includes $500/year reimbursement for CVT and $750/year for VTS. The Continuing Education allowance can roll over up to $1,500 for CVT and VTS associates. Non-Credentialed, full-time Paraprofessionals are eligible for an annual CE stipend of $150. Full-time CVT associates also receive 8 hours of CE paid hours each year. Full-time VTS associates receive 12 hours of CE paid each year. Paid CE hours can be carried over year to year up to a maximum of 24 hours. Newly hired associates will receive a pro-rated amount of any CE benefit for which they are eligible.
