Main purpose of job:

The Estates Section is looking for an AC Mechanic who can perform a range of tasks, preferably in both mechanical and electrical areas. This person will report to the Supervisor (M&E) and will be tasked with maintaining air conditioning systems, mechanical, kitchen appliances and electrical equipment across various properties of the British High Commission in New Delhi. The position may involve after-hours work as necessary. A strong knowledge of health and safety regulations during renovations, scheduled preventive maintenance, and repair work is crucial.

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?

The individual will work closely with the M&E Supervisor as part of the main team responsible for scheduled preventive maintenance.
 
Their duties will include responding to work requests from the M&E Supervisor and helping with the daily and weekly upkeep of air conditioning systems, such as Split ACs, VRV units, refrigerators, FCU, AHU, kitchen appliances, and chillers with a capacity of 250 TR. 

The position also requires providing standby support for emergency air conditioning calls. The job holder will operate under the daily guidance of the M&E Supervisor, complete assigned tasks, and take on additional responsibilities from the Line Manager. 

Maintenance activities at BHC ON/OFF properties are vital for ensuring the upkeep, functionality, and compliance of the properties. Conducting regular mechanical and electrical works, documenting maintenance tasks, and having expertise in motors and pumps are crucial aspects of maintaining BHC ON/OFF properties. By prioritizing maintenance activities and emphasizing the importance of expertise and documentation, BHC ON/OFF properties can uphold the quality and standards of their properties.

Property Compliance Assessments (PCA) are essential to evaluate and ensure that properties meet the required standards and regulations. Maintenance staff at BHC ON/OFF properties carry out various tasks throughout the day to maintain the properties’ compliance. These tasks include inspecting, repairing, and servicing mechanical and electrical systems such as HVAC systems, plumbing, and lighting fixtures. By conducting these tasks regularly, maintenance staff can address any issues promptly and prevent potential problems that may arise.

In this crucial role, the individual will lead external contractors in overseeing renovation and project tasks at the ON/OFF compound, guaranteeing that their work aligns with specified guidelines and employing suitable materials. Apart from demonstrating efficiency and attention to detail during installations of split ACs, fan coil units, and appliances across different locations within the compound, this position holds immense importance within the M&E team framework. Furthermore, being responsible for promptly addressing breakdown calls adds to the significance of the position, showcasing the necessity of a skilled professional to seamlessly manage these key responsibilities with precision and expertise.

The individual stepping into this critical position holds the key to the smooth functioning of the Maintenance & Engineering (M&E) team. Assigned with the particular installation of split ACs, fan coil units, and appliances across multiple sites within the compound during renovations and ongoing projects, their role is necessary. Beyond routine tasks, they are the frontline responders, ready to tackle breakdown calls promptly and effectively whenever the need arises. Their skills are not just desirable but essential, ensuring the comfort and efficiency of the entire operation. Embodying a blend of technical prowess and a proactive mindset, this individual truly embodies the heartbeat of the team, playing a pivotal role in the success of each project they undertake.

You can count on our dedicated team to meticulously conduct repairs on mechanical water pumps, sump pumps, and electrical equipment in strict adherence to the organisation’s health and safety protocols. Rest assured; any pending tasks will be promptly communicated to the M&E manager for seamless follow-up. Not stopping there, our thorough professionals will inspect the BHC main office and residential properties within the compound, diligently documenting any concerns encountered. Stay assured that all necessary repairs will be swiftly reported, ensuring the smooth operation and maintenance of these key facilities.

Learning and development opportunities (and any specific training courses to be completed):

Candidates should possess an ITI in Refrigeration & Air Conditioning along with 3 years of experience, or a High School diploma with a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in refrigeration and air conditioning.

– Experience in mechanical work within commercial buildings or residential properties, as well as familiarity with the operation, maintenance, and testing of centrifugal chiller plants and related equipment and systems, is required.

– The ability to understand basic English and communicate effectively with UK personnel, their families, staff, and others is essential.

– Candidates must be capable of completing logbooks and maintaining technical records in English.

– A good understanding of maintenance requirements for air conditioning units, fridge freezers, chiller plants, and other  kitchen equipment, ice machine, Walk in freezer, walk in chillers, systems is necessary.

– The ability to collaborate with team members or contractors is important.

– Knowledge of electrical work will be considered a valuable asset.

Language requirements:

Level of language required: Basic , Good  

Having a understanding of health and safety protocols aligned with established international industry standards is crucial in maintaining a safe work environment.

For other than BHC Candidates, salary will be all-inclusive of INR 26,975 per month plus 12% Provident Fund and 6% Superannuation Fund.

Additionally, the BHC offers a great benefits package that includes annual domiciliary medical cover, plus a Group Hospitalisation Scheme with INR 500,000 floater cover for your immediate family which includes self, spouse/partner and children up to an age of 23years and irrespective of age, only if with, physical or mental disability.

No relocation or any other related costs or assistance will be provided.

Please note – BHC does not deduct tax at source and employees are required to ensure that any requirements of local income-tax law are complied with in full. Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, e.g., some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.   

Please note – Provident Fund Transfer in and out from EPFO is not possible as BHC PF is managed by a private PF trust governed by Indian Income Tax Act, 1961. The staff still has the option to transfer out and in from a privately held PF trust which are not governed by EPFO.
