The British Embassy in The Hague is part of a world-wide network, representing British political, economic and consular interests overseas and is seeking to recruit an Administrative Desk Assistant to provide administrative support to the UK desk at Eurojust based in The Hague.

The role of the Administrative Desk Assistant is diverse and wide-ranging.  It offers an excellent opportunity to support the UK desk at Eurojust and UK stakeholders in the area of judicial co-operation. The successful candidate will have excellent communication and organisational skills and be able to multitask and deal calmly with conflicting duties.

 Roles and responsibilities: 

  • Provide administrative support and assistance to the Head of the UK desk and the UK team at Eurojust.

  • Ensure case files are opened promptly and managed in accordance with the  UK Desk protocols.

  • Create and maintain databases and records relating to casework and financing of the same.

  • Support the UK desk in arranging case co-ordination meetings (CMs), managing the administration of the CMs and supporting UK attendees.

  • To assist in the arrangements for UK stakeholder visits to Eurojust.

  • To provide administrative Support for the smooth running of the UK desk to include team diary maintenance, new staff inductions, travel claims, ordering etc.

  • Written and spoken fluency at C1 level in English (according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages*);

  • 1-2 years experience in working in an administrative support role.

  • Experience working with the full Microsoft office suite packages. 

  • Some experience working face to face with stakeholders. 

  • Excellent ability to multi-task and strong organisational skills.

  • Experience working in a international environment.
  • Knowledge of an additional European language would be beneficial.

The base salary for this position is € 3578.16 gross per month, based on a working week of 36 hours. In addition, an 8% holiday bonus is payable each year. The successful candidate will initially be offered a 12-month employment contract with the possibility of renewal, at AO grade level.

Visa/work permit requirements: Candidates must currently hold the independent right to live and work in the Netherlands and be prepared to ensure that right remains throughout the scope of the contract. Please note that it is your responsibility to ensure you meet the legal requirements to live and work in the Netherlands. The successful candidate will be required to provide a BSN (citizen service number) on their start date and will need to arrange and pay for their own travel and accommodation, as well as any other living costs. The successful candidate will undergo a professional background check. Any job offer is also subject to a successful security clearance check.        

Salary/tax conditions: Successful candidates who are not liable to pay local income tax will have their salary abated by an amount equal to that which would be paid if they were liable to pay local income tax (also known as notional tax). It is for individual successful candidates to seek tax advice from a professional tax expert. The Embassy is not in a position to offer advice on whether you are liable to pay local tax or not.

Working Patterns: For this role it is expected that you work full-time for 36 hours a week, based in the office.
