The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) is the UK government agency that helps foster UK Exports and Inward Investment. DBT officers at overseas posts liaise with the UK headquarters and other departments across the British Government to generate commercial, policy and institutional collaborations in other markets. 

This is an exciting opportunity to work on improving bilateral trade and investment between the United Kingdom and Brazil, especially through increasing UK exports of the Advanced Engineering, Automotive and Chemical sectors, including a number of iconic and traditional products from the UK. 

You will be supporting the team with administrative and back-office help to activities related to trade promotion, market access, marketing intelligence and overseas direct investment, such as pipeline and system entries management, organisation of events, marketing and communications campaigns. 

When appropriate, you will have the opportunity to participate at commercial meetings, tradeshows and external events in order to develop your professional skills and experience to enhance your future career prospects. 

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Providing administrative and back-office support to the AESC sector team;
  • Keeping an updated record of interactions with clients in our internal data systems;
  • Assisting in the preparation of market research reports, internal briefings, visiting programmes for clients;
  • Administrative support in the organisation of events;
  • Supporting the team in identifying business opportunities for UK companies;
  • Supporting the organisation of travel agendas and logistic arrangements for the team, as well as to potential trade missions;
  • Accompanying meetings with Brazilian and UK companies, both virtually and in person;
  • Assisting the sector team in the analysis of trade data, news, and sector information related to the AESC sector.
  • Assisting in the creation of the sector newsletter targeted to our database and broad communication campaigns;
  • Other relevant activities.

  • Candidates must be currently pursuing an undergraduate degree at a Brazilian University in any area of study, but preferably: International Relations, Foreign Trade, Economics, Business Administration, Law, and similar areas.
  • We are looking for a proactive self-starter who is collaborative, responsible and open to learning and receiving feedback. Being organized and consistent are key qualities.

Language requirements: 

Language:  English and Portuguese 

Level of language required:  Fluent in English and Portuguese (spoken and written).  

  • Previous experience in an administrative role.

Applicants must have the legal status to live and work in Brazil.

Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, eg some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.

Appointable candidates who were unsuccessful may be placed on a ‘reserve list’.  If during the reserve period of 12 months the same or a largely similar role becomes available, that role may be offered to the second or subsequent candidate.
