The British Embassy in Tashkent is part of the UK’s global diplomatic network and we are now looking to recruit a Business Support Officer on a permanent basis, who will work as a member of the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) team based in the Embassy.

DBT is an international economic department, securing UK and global prosperity by promoting and financing international trade and investment opportunities and championing free trade. The successful candidate will contribute to the UK’s prosperity by working in an expanded DBT commercial team in the Embassy, contributing to the enhancement of the bilateral trade and investment relations between the UK and Uzbekistan.

The successful candidate will need to provide a high standard of day-to-day administration support, with both budget and information management. Additionally, the successful candidate will support with wider DBT team through translation of official documentation and correspondence. A key part of the role will be the support to business and networking events in Uzbekistan.

This is a fast paced and demanding role which requires strong interpersonal and organisational skills in order to deliver the business operations of the DBT team in Uzbekistan. The jobholder will also utilise their strong language skills to support the work of the wider team.

Roles and responsibilities:

The role has three key areas of responsibility:

The Business Support Officer will work as part of the wider Department of Business and Trade team including with the Country Director directly. The jobholder will be based at the British Embassy in Tashkent, supporting team in their day-to-day work and budget management.

Department for Business and Trade (DBT) in Uzbekistan: The Department for Business and Trade in Uzbekistan is based in Tashkent and is supported by colleagues from the wider Embassy, the DBT regional network, and UK government departments in the UK. The DBT team works to strengthen the bilateral trade relationship between the UK and Uzbekistan.

Your role will be varied and demanding, and you will need to be flexible. You will need to have a great eye for detail and an ability to juggle priorities according to demanding timelines. Relationship building skills are essential as you will need to create good contacts, across different teams within the Embassy in Tashkent, as well as build relationships with our colleagues in other regional locations.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Team support, including data and information management, and media reporting.

  • Providing logistical support for large-scale events, workshops, trade missions and visiting delegations.

  • Translation of correspondence, official documentation, and marketing information.

  • Assisting the team with external procurement processes, in line with UK Government policy.

  • Budget support: including monitoring budgets, recording spending, and working with colleagues to forecast spend.

  • Fluency at C1 level in English and Russian (according to Common European Framework of Reference for Languages* or IELTS score of 6.0 or above) and knowledge of Uzbek, verbal and written, with excellent communications skills;   

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, in particular Word and Excel.

  • Ability to manage your own work with minimal supervision and work effectively under tight deadlines.

  • Excellent organisational and planning skills, and efficient time management with minimal supervision.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work effectively under tight deadlines.

  • Flexibility to adapt and support a wide variety of tasks.

  • Previous experience in a business support role and/or events management.

  • Experience working within an international environment.

  • Experience in logistics management and procurement.

  • Experience in translation of business documentation on correspondence.

This is a full-time, permanent contract for 40 working hours gross per week.

The successful candidate will be subject to professional background checks and security clearance.

Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy in Uzbekistan are subject to the terms and conditions of service according to local Uzbek employment law. All applicants interested in this job opportunity should have the legal right to live and work in Uzbekistan.

The British Embassy does not sponsor work permits.

Working patterns: This is a full-time position however the British Embassy Tashkent supports flexible working and would be able to consider flexi-hours (eg early start and early finish each working day) or compressed hours (eg working 10 days in 9).
