The British Consulate General (BCG) in Los Angeles has an exciting opportunity for a motivated, enthusiastic, proactive, and creative individual to join the Corporate Services Team as Corporate Services and Events Support Officer. The job will involve a wide variety of administrative, IT, Finance, Estates, and high-profile events management activities.

This is hugely varied and stretching role– no two days will be the same! BCG LA has an extremely busy and ambitious events agenda as LA moves towards the 2026 FIFA World cup and 2028 Olympics and Paralympics. This successful applicant will provide essential support to BCG staff through their Corporate Services responsibilities, and will be pivotal in delivering high-quality, high-profile events for BCG.

Roles and responsibilities:

 Corporate

  • Key IT support point of contact for BCG staff working with US Network IT team in Washington DC and the UK based IT Help Desk to provide excellent customer service for IT issues arising and ensure Consulate IT systems function effectively (training will be provided for this element of the role).
  • Finance: Requisition and ‘receive’ goods/services, using the Consulate’s procurement and payment system (Hera). Ensure all invoices are paid accurately and promptly and maintain a robust audit trail for all payments.
  • Ensure Crisis Equipment and supplies are working effectively and are properly maintained.

 Events Management

  • Assisting the Consul General’s Events Manager to deliver high-profile events for BCG LA. You can expect to get involved in all aspects of events management in this role. Tasks include but are not limited to; designing invitations and managing guest lists; oversight and management of catering/waiting/cleaning staff; procurement of events items; building, maintaining and managing relationships with Event suppliers and Partners.
  • Responsible for ensuring IT and audiovisual equipment at the Residence functions effectively and is properly maintained (linked to corporate IT support elements of role)

 

This role is 40hrs a week. The core hours are between 9am-5pm. Flexible working may be available although most responsibilities require attendance in office. Occasional evening and weekends may be required, with time off in lieu provided for any additional hours worked.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the confidence to communicate at all levels and effectively manage stakeholders.
  • Valid driving licence and ability to drive to events and run errands pertaining to events (BCG is based in Century City and CG Residence is in Hancock Park).
  • Strong team player with the ability to work well with others and integrate into the wider FCDO US Network.
  • Previous office management, customer service, or event management experience
  • Proficiency in using internet applications and Microsoft Office suite
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, sound judgement, and the ability to remain calm and composed under pressure.
  • Creativity, enthusiasm, and a keen eye for detail
