Main Purpose of Job:

This is a multifaceted entry-level role for an exceptional individual to join the Department for Business and Trade’s China and Hong Kong region as a Marketing and Communications Officer. 

Reporting to the Senior Marketing and Communications Manager, the successful applicant will provide support across multiple marketing and communications initiatives and contribute to the wider team’s trade and investment ambitions. This role will be a part of the marketing and communications function to enhance the reputation of the UK Government, while promoting the UK as a first-class destination for inward investment and an export powerhouse in Hong Kong. 

What the Jobholder will be Expected to Achieve:

Marketing campaign support

  • Provide events and logistics support for major marketing campaigns.
  • Keep track of campaign timelines and update the activity calendar regularly.
  • Draft clear and concise production briefs and work closely with the brand team to design materials for marketing initiatives.

Communications channel support

  • Manage social media channels. Develop digital marketing content for e-newsletter.
  • Collaborate with other Communications teams across different UK government departments to synchronise Comms messaging.

Administrative support

  • Manage financial processes (quotation comparisons, supplier set up, raising requisitions or processing claims) for procurements related to marketing and communication initiatives.
  • Use Excel and PowerPoint to create draft performance reports on marketing and communications channel data and media insights.
  • Assist other team members and perform similar administrative tasks when needed, including on-site event support.
  • Contribute to corporate initiatives that overlap with marketing and communications work.

The exact responsibilities of this role are likely to change over time. The candidate will have the opportunity to gain experience in many different areas.   • Interests in various marketing and communications functions. Eagerness to learn and try
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English and Chinese (Cantonese)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent organisational skills, attention to detail, and positive team approach
  • Competence in problem-solving and time management with minimal supervision
  • Proficiency in numbers. Comfortable with technology and digital tools. Skilled in Microsoft Office
  • Appropriate residency status or valid working visa in Hong Kong

  • Commercial experience and knowledge of working in a business environment
  • Experience in event planning, and/or marketing and communications
  • Knowledge of virtual event platforms and digital marketing channels, analytic tools, and techniques
  • Proficiency in Mandarin

Our Offer:

This position is open to Hong Kong citizens, permanent residents, and partners/dependents of UK-based diplomatic staff currently posted in Hong Kong. Employment offers are subject to successful clearance of pre-employment checks. No accommodation or relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position. Candidates must have or be able to obtain work authorisation for Hong Kong in order to apply.

The jobholder may be required to travel. Some work (including travel) will be required during the evenings and occasionally weekends, for which time off in lieu (where applicable) will be given.

The start date mentioned in the job advert is a tentative start date and the successful candidate will be required to undergo security vetting procedures. Any offer of employment will be subject to the candidate achieving suitable clearances.

The starting salary mentioned in the job advert is unnegotiable, and there is no additional commission or allowance for this position.
