Main purpose of job:

To ensure the immaculate upkeep and hospitality of the residence, maintaining a good environment conducive to the functions and activities hosted within its premises.

Roles and responsibilities 

The housekeeper is responsible for cleaning designated areas of the Head of Mission’s Residence as well as supporting official events and entertainment hosted by the Head of Mission, staff meetings, trainings and other internal events. 

Key responsibilities are as follows:

  1. Perform thorough cleaning duties in all designated areas in the premises of the Head of mission’s residence:
  • Vacuuming, mopping, dusting, and sanitizing surfaces throughout designated areas.
  • Wash and vacuum upholstered furniture.
  • Ensure all rooms are tidy, well-maintained, and presentable at all times.
  • Launder and iron linens and clothing items as needed.
  • Water indoor plants
  • Maintain order in the utility rooms: pantry, wine cellar, laundry room, and all other storage areas.
  • Empty waste bins and change bin bags.
  • Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and notify management of any shortages or maintenance issues.

2.     Table Waiting and support works:

  • Assist with meal preparation and service for official events.
  • Prepare and set tables for events.
  • Clear tables, wash glassware, crockery, and cutlery after events

3.     Other:

  • Adhere to security protocols and maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Compliance with health and safety regulations while performing duties.
  • Wear and look after work attire.

  • Proven experience as a housekeeper or similar role, preferably in a high-profile setting or residences of embassies.
  • Excellent knowledge of cleaning techniques and sanitation standards.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, and weekends as needed.
  • A qualification from Malawi Institute of Tourism will be an added advantage

Learning and development opportunities:

There is ample opportunity to develop through FCDO/Civil Service training courses.  The British High Commission has a generous training budget and we encourage staff to identify training to improve their performance and aid their career progression, in consultation with their line-manager.

 

Working patterns:

25 hours per week.
